41  Onesie (r) Cake - My First Shaped/Theme Cake in Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies by thepeachmartini on: March 30, 2010 04:20:01 PM
There is most definitely something in the water at work because in my department alone we've had three pregnancies, and countless others on my floor (I am avoiding this water at all costs right now!)

This cake was for the first of three showers we will be planning...the mommy-to-be didn't like girly-girl pink, so I was trying to avoid it as much as I could. I settled on these colors, mostly because they made me think of spring, and were just girly enough to pass her approval Cheesy I also made a 2nd square-shaped cake since we've got quite a few people to feed...that one didn't turn out as well - I had a heck of a time trying to think of how to decorate it!

The sides were terrible looking, so I trimmed it with some wide sheer ribbon, which ended up looking nice. The freehanded "fly lines" were a last minute decision - the cake just looked nekked without something!

Be gentle - it's my first try with making a shaped cake - it went over like gangbusters though!!!

42  Re: Friends of Craftster Raffle Swap R8 FOCR R8 (Signups CLOSED Sendout 4/10) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by thepeachmartini on: March 22, 2010 07:09:28 PM
OK - here are my contributions for the raffle! Sorry for the quality of the pictures - I'll try to get better ones of the journal tomorrow, but I wanted to get these posted before I forget about it!

Earrings, with a very pretty light purple pattern and some czech glass beads; sterling silver findins, surgical steel ear wires...

...another pair of earrings...these beads were handmade by a local artist in my state, and are a very bright and cheerful color combination!

A journal - some cute little victorian fairies on the cover, and some roses...it says "A happy song" "A bright new spirit" - the back has some vellum butterfly stickers on it, and a tag that commemorates the swap Smiley Use it for keeping your thoughts organized, or for all your new swap ideas!

*Bear with me, this could get a little wordy...*  Wink

'Twas the night before Thursday and all through the house,
not a creature was stirring, except for me and my mouth.
The pizza was warmed with the cheese nice and hot,
and all that was left was to rip open the box!

I grabbed for the knife, and I squeeled with delight,
as I saw the red tin peeking out in the night!
When what to my wandering eyes should appear,
a shiny red tin, adorned with a Santa so dear!

Not sure I could stand the suspense any longer,
I lifted the lid, heart beating a bit stronger.
The contents were nestled all snug in their bed,
While a cute ornament brought a smile to my head!

Quickly forgetting the pizza I nuked,
Which, I assure you, is only a fluke!
I picked up the ornament so carefully,
The snowman depicted made my heart fill with glee!

I turned it over in my small chubby hands,
To reveal a scene that was equally grand!
Side two of the ornament was quiet and calm,
So much so I almost dropped the f-bomb!

My eyes darted to a curious stack,
When I saw what it was, I was taken aback!
Im really not that big of a boaster,
But I have a shiny new set of 4 coasters!

This tin, might I mention, is equally grand!
I can see it was decorated by hand!
On the top and the sides are pictures of Santa!
So merry and cheery, and happy you see.

A bundle of toys was flung on his back,
There must be a thousand tucked in that sack!
His suit was red and trimmed in white fur,
His boots, black as night and quite warm, I am sure.

With a wink of the eye and a jovial smile,
He stared at me silently and for a while.
I noticed a finger was placed on his lips,
A signal to all so no secrets are dripped.

Enclosed was a card, so soft and serene
The picture reminded me of a dream.
It matched the coasters of four that I had;
Matching things always make me so glad!

I opened the card to read what it said,
Shortly before shuffling off to my bed.
A brief explanation of what I received,
Another quick read before it was sleeved.

The tin is dual-purpose for cookies or cards,
Mod-Podge control is really quite card!
She did a great job at keeping it neat,
The papers and ribbons just cant be beat!

I placed all the goodies back in the tin,
A great end to the night it really had been.
Itd be even better, though, I must confess
If the Blackhawks could win their hockey contest!

The swaps here on Craftster are a wonderful treat
The hard work and talent just cannot be beat!
Ill now close this poem with a wish that you might
Have a Merry Christmas and a jolly good night!

*warning - lots of pics...it's the photographer in me - I had to document everything!*

So...I was sick all weekend with a nasty cold. I'm still not feeling 100%, but had to go to work anyway. It was cold, rainy and windy all day, and on my way home I encountered my first snowflakes of the season! Needless to say I was looking forward to getting home and being cozy...and then I remembered that mixedchick's package was waiting for me!

Ooohhh....pretty packages...

"I'm a cozy scarf"

I'll get an action shot of the scarf tomorrow - I look too terrible to do such a beautiful scarf justice!

"I'm a fall garland"

It's almost too pretty to open!

Of course I saved the biggest one for last...hmm, what could this be?

Some awesome altered pages in the pockets...hmm...pockets?

OH MY GOODNESS...!!! It's an apron!

Mixedchick, you've outdone yourself...and I feel like I've gilted you now! THANK YOU SO MUCH - I am love it all!!!

48  Sweet oven mitts in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by thepeachmartini on: November 18, 2007 01:59:45 PM
I am so excited about these...this is the first project using my sewing machine and "expensive" fabric  Grin (non-wally world fabric, that is...you know, good stuff!)

These are part of my cousin's birthday present - the other part is an apron which I plan on starting this week (needs to be done by Thanksgiving...but I'm not expecting it to take too long!) She turns 17 on Tuesday and loves cooking. *squee!!!*

Here is a close-up of the cupcake fabric...isn't it yummy?!

49  Prayer Beads/Chaplets in Beads: Completed Projects by thepeachmartini on: March 19, 2007 11:27:40 AM
I have no idea what even motivated me to make these - I suppose I could call it divine intervention if I wanted to...LOL

I made a couple prayer chaplets (similar to a rosary, but usually dedicated to a specific saint or religious icon; mostly used by Catholics) for my family and a friend of mine...Both are made using Swarovski crystals and sterling silver findings.

This is a St. Gerard chaplet. He is the patron saint of expectant mothers and those wishing to conceive...my friend has been married for three years and has had a lot of difficulties getting preggers. I made this in hopes it can give her a little hope and peace of mind. Medal is of St. Gerard, and reads "Pray for us" on the back.

This is a Peace Chaplet. It is a grouping of 21 beads (seven groups of three), a patar bead (the large crystal) and a medal of Our Lady of Medugorje, and reads "Regina pacis, ora pro nobis" (Queen of Peace, pray for us) on the back. I made it for my grandmother in her favorite color - blue.
