1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / New boy... comic nerd! on: May 12, 2011 08:32:23 AM
i've been seeing this guy for just a few months and we're still casual (no bf label or anything) but his birthday is coming up and I'd love to make him something unique and memorable!  He is a HUGE COMIC NERD!  And while I am a nerd, comics and graphic novels are out of my league so I really am clueless. He already owns a zillion books so I'd like to rule that out.

If it helps he's also into good indie music and vinyl. I am considering some record bowls but would like something else as well.

I looked through the generic bf thread but all those ideas are too coupley. I can't do any photos or scrapbooks or anything.

Any ideas, especially comic oriented would be appreciated!
2  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Cardstock sanitary? on: December 08, 2008 04:13:24 PM
Okay, I was thinking of using this tut (http://www.skiptomylou.org/2007/01/18/valentines/) to make paper packets and put individual servings of homemade hot chocolate mix into the packets then give them out as gifts.  Rather than the bulk jar method.

Probably a dumb question, but will the packet (using cardstock) be sanitary enough to put the powder mixture into?
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Chalkboard Paint Success! [pics] on: March 25, 2008 08:27:28 PM
1. $9 chalkboard paint at lowe's
2. $1 document frame at a dollar store
3. Blue tape off a square
4. Apply 3 coats of chalkboard paint using a 3" brush
5. Wait 24 hours
6. Use $0.64 cent colored and white chalk bought at walmart (not found at target =/)
7. Nail up scrabble tile holders to hold the chalk

4  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Succubus Costume (WoW) on: August 07, 2007 08:02:34 AM
I wanted to make this last year but did not have enough time to get all the materials, so I am giving myself a head start this year.

I want the costume to look like this:  http://www.flickr.com/photos/crystaltips/1001901594/

Which is based off of this: http://www.thottbot.com/?sp=712

I know i can get black skivvies and paint them with fabric paint, and was going to use black gloves painted for the wrists.  But it's the wings and horns I'm stuck on.  How can I make those?

For the wings, should i just buy strongish wire at home depot and shape it then stretch thin fabric over it and kinda glue/wrap it around the wire?

And I haven't a clue about the horns?  Fabric around spiraled wire?

For the top I thought I could just buy a black corset and fabric paint that as well.

Thoughts? Opinions?
5  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Succubus Costume on: September 30, 2006 08:36:03 AM
I want to make a succubus costume this year for halloween.  I have never really made or designed my own costume so I'm not sure how to start.

I figured that for the top and bottoms I can just buy a solid pair of bra/undies/a tank top/bikini bottoms then paint them the contrasting color.  or perhaps sew the pattern into it.  The same with the wrist bracers.

I'm sure I can buy some horns somewhere.  And the tail. And the whip.

But i am not sure about the wings.  Can I purchase black/purple wings somewhere or should I try to make them?  And if the latter, how the heck do I make wings?!

I guess for the second pic actually ((i could make either costume, i dont care)) i could just buy a black corset and add purple embellishments somehow.  And perhaps buy arm length gloves, add some fabric, cut off the hand part; for the bracers.

Just toss some ideas around for me please!
6  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Hide A Vibe Pillow on: February 07, 2006 03:48:40 PM
I want to make a Hide-A-Vibe pillow for my friend and would like to try to find a pattern before I attempt it myself.  Does anyone know where I can find a pattern for something like this?  Or any general suggestions?  Thanks!
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Scrabble Bulletin Board! on: June 30, 2005 06:45:12 PM
I began this project as a gift for my friend after seeing this thread, https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=5128.0, but quickly realized that using the actual gameboard as a bulletin board would not be practical at all.  It is too stiff and the holes wouldn't "heal" themselves as they do on corkboard.  So I ditched the original board and made my own using a recreated scrabble board I made in photoshop, posterboard, a corkboard square and spray adhesive.
