Ya, I haven't seen any handmade Demi shells either. Kinda sad since I do think it's the best Miche base bag, but the Miche shells aren't cheap. The Petite and Classic don't open up enough for my taste, makes them annoying to use even though they are super cute... All is remedied now that I have a pattern to make my own Demi shells though Cheesy

That flower cover is super pretty Smiley

I was talking about actual magnetic shells just like the ones Miche makes. I think slip covers work great for the Petite and the Classic as long as you have one relatively plain/flat shell to put them over. However, I have a Demi base bag and I think, because of the shape, making a slip cover would involve the same amount of sewing/effort as making a whole shell.

I finally got around to testing the pattern I drafted for the Demi Shell.

I'm finished! It's fully lined but not reversible. I'm still thinking about making matching straps and possible getting some grommets to put on the sides for the shoulder strap option. Thanks for looking Smiley

Original Post:

I recently got a Miche Demi base bag and I absolutely love it. The only problem is trying to pick out a shell for it. None of their current styles are really my taste so I decided to try and come up with a pattern to make my own. This is my first attempt and I think it turned out pretty well. I still need to sew the flap with the magnets in it so it's being held on with a few pins so I could see how it fit and take some pictures. I'm also trying to decide if I should line it or make it reversible. Since this was just a pattern testing project, the fabric I used is from a skirt I bought at the thrift store for $3.99. I'm not sure if I should make some custom straps to go with it because I'm not sure if the black matches?

Comments/criticisms welcome!

This strap won't work because it's longer than the one the Petite originally comes with right?

That sucks that Miche only makes 1 shell you like. Which one is it? It seems that their designs are aimed at a very specific demographic and a lot of their designs are very similar to one another. That kind of makes it hard for everyone else to find shells they like(I personally only bought the base bags from Miche, I make my shells myself). It's such a great product they just need a better variety of styles for the shells they offer.

You want to see my pattern for the Petites or the finished shell?
