2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / raid your father's closet --> wrap miniskirt! on: June 19, 2005 10:21:39 AM
I got this idea from another craftster member, but put my own spin on it. I raided my dad's closet and cut off 5 dress-shirt sleeves at the armpits using pinking shears (the scissors w/ the zig zaggy edges). Then I cut down the seams of the sleeves and laid them out flat, arranging the material the way i wanted on my skirt, bad side of the fabric facing up. I then sewed the sleeves together down like "sew" ha ha...

a beautiful artist's rendition, if i might say so myself.

It turned out I could make a wrap skirt out of it just by fastening the last buttonhole to whatever button on the waistband I wanted. Time to call in the mom. She helped me pin up my skirt to the right length and hem it there. Then I hemmed the rest of it and made a lining for it (it was rather see-through). I attached the lining just under the cuff-waistband and added pzaz with a tie.

I had made my first skirt ever thanks to craftster! Whaddya think? Anybody have any ideas about what i could make w/ the de-sleeved shirt bodies?
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / first post-- CD table out of old CD's! on: June 17, 2005 02:11:21 PM
Hello! I am sooo excited about posting my first completed project on craftster! So here goes:

A little while back i decided to redo my room. It was just a tad bit young. So, i made myself a very teenage, mod nightstand that didn't compromise my coolness.

I went to Ikea, and bought a white nightstand. I got home and spray painted it black (I'm not crazy, they didn't have any black nightstands). After letting it dry for a few hours, I took some super glue and glued some blank CD's my dad had hanging around to the top of it. Then I went to my favorite store--Target, of course-- and found a glass tabletop that would protect and snazz up my CD's. Here it is--I hope the pics work, it's my first time, remember?  Tongue

plus, it makes a bitchin' rainbow thingy on my ceiling when the sun hits it right:
