1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Lots of layers of really thick fabric on: January 12, 2015 10:41:04 PM
Is that different than a denim needle? I'm using Inspira Denim needles size 130/705H-J.
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Lots of layers of really thick fabric on: January 11, 2015 09:48:41 PM
i'm sewing with cordura (1k denier) and really heavy thread (92 polyester).

My machine still doesn't like it - I have TEN layers of basically heavy back pack material that will just NOT sew...

How do people do many layers of denim without their machines spazzing out?

machine deets - I have a Pfaff Creative Performance and can adjust just about anything.

I've tried:

1) lowering the needle - that makes the bobbin start to connect with the top thread
2) loosening the tension
3) tightening the tension
4) raising the presser foot.
5) IDT system both engaged and dis-engaged (basically a fancy walking foot connected to the motor

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / military style gear - help with cordura and webbing, please?? on: March 31, 2014 08:47:14 PM
ok - so my stitches look decent and I have the molle spec down for making miltary style gear but the cordura i'm using as the base fabric (kinda like backpack material) keeps puckering and I cannot figure out why!

Using 1000 denier Cordura + 1" nylon webbing + 96 weight nylon webbing thread (basically upholstery weight and a custom bartack I made on the machine. I have the tension and the presser foot cranked down.

It might actually be that I have the wrong foot (I've tried using both feet that come with the machine that have the highest channel under the foot) OR I'm using the same weight thread in the bobbin and the top but check out the picture below and see what you think.

4  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: heavy polyester thread has white film on: March 24, 2014 10:45:58 PM
Oh - interesting! husband actually suggested something similar (about the tension and maybe needing oil).

thanks for the input - I'll check with the ladies I bought my machine from and see if they have suggestions too!

I'm using size 92 thread to make some military spec bags, etc. but the theard I got seems to sloughing off this white film. Anyone have ideas on how to stop it or why the thread is doing this?

the thread is black coming off the spool, but after going through the machine and fabric, it has this white film. See below:

I had 4 balls of this awesome yarn, and I THOUGHT I had enough to make a sweater but alas I do not. Does anyone have a good resource for discontinued stock?

I'm looking for Lion Brand Jiffy in color 305 "Denver"
