21  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Re: Essential Oils Question on: July 12, 2005 05:24:52 AM
I always find them at natural foods stores/co-ops.  If you have something like that around, it would be a good place to check.
22  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: What do I give up first? Going vegan. on: July 10, 2005 11:09:09 AM
Cool!  I guess I just always saw the lactic acid and yogurt cultures part and put it back on the shelf....

Yes!  and it's delicious too!  I'm not vegan, just vegetarian.  But, over the last couple years, I've been replacing a lot of dairy with non-dairy or leaving it out all together.  (Cold turkey doesn't work for me at all.  I quit smoking by gradually cutting back over a period of about 6 months!  The minute I feel I'm depriving myself, I rebel.  I'm totally in awe of people who can make changes in a snap.  What self-control!)  Well, I'll just say I tried a couple horrid non-dairy yogurts before Silk, but decided not to give up.  Black cherry is better than any real yogurt!
23  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / Re: Is this a total scam or what? on: July 08, 2005 01:52:05 PM
My guess is that someone is trying to funnel stolen credit card numbers or personal information through you.  Definitely report this and cease contact.

From Silk website:

All of our products and flavors are completely vegan except for the Baked Tofu Oriental style and the Seitan Vegetarian Stir Fry Strips which contain honey. There are no animal derivatives in any of the other products or ingredients. The lactic acid and yogurt cultures used in our Silk Cultured Soy come from a vegetable source. All vitamins used in Silk Soymilk are derived from vegetable sources including Calcium Carbonate which comes from limestone.
25  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: writing is a craft, isn't it? *slightly modified 7/1* on: July 08, 2005 06:45:50 AM
don't let it get you down.  my guess is, you could post a poem on one of those sites from a wildly famous poet (think: Emily Dickinson), and, while most people would probably comment on your taste for plagiarism, at least one moron would leave something along the lines of "dull and dense" as a mistake for commentary.  Even if the poem were dull and dense, which it isn't, that is not a critique.  Is there any way that you can reply to the comments others leave?  Without appearing defensive or aggressive, I would simply request that the anonymous self-appointed poetry genius expand their "dull and dense" into something more appropriate and helpful.
26  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: "Feather Your Nest Swap" Sign-ups CLOSED (Send Out July 5) on: July 07, 2005 06:49:25 AM
This has nothing to do with the swap...I just noticed Allerby's quote- one of my favorite lines from any poem ever.  Quoting T.S. Eliot at 17--- impressive.  Hmm...I love that poem, (The Love Song of J. Afred Pufrock), despite my belief that Eliot's writing was annoyingly pretentious at times.  Oh yeah...and I'm excited about the swap too!
27  U.K. AND IRELAND / ENGLAND / Re: Terrorist attack on: July 07, 2005 06:12:35 AM
Okay, I think the confusion on fatalities might be a result of the English/American English language barrier.  My boyfriend just told me over the phone that he keeps hearing (from the British press) "20 casulaties and at least 2 fatalaties".  In the states, casualty and fatality are synonymous.

I really like the second stanza of the first poem, particularly the line,
We could lie in the quiet of our ellipses
.  I think you definitely have talent and allowing others to read and critique will help you fine tune your style.  Also, writing is definitely a craft and I personally believe poetry to be an art.  Thanks for sharing.
29  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Alternatives to milk for ice cream/ deserts? on: June 27, 2005 01:28:34 PM
I'm an ice-cream fanatic.  It's probably the main thing seperating me from veganism, but the best ice cream i've ever made was entirely dairy free.  I used coconut milk (plenty of fat content!) instead of cream and the flavor was coconut-lime-ginger.  If that sounds intriguing, let me know and I'll dig up the recipe and send it.
30  COOKING / Vegetarian / Vegan / Re: What do you eat? (vegetarians) on: June 24, 2005 10:05:25 AM
That's a shame about Backyard Burger.  A friend of mine who used to live in Memphis enthusiastically forced me to eat one when we were there for a visit about 5 years ago and it was delicious.  also, Burger King changed their veggie burgers within the last couple months.  They now use soy-based Morningstar ones which I think (not sure, please double-check) are vegan.  The old ones were not.
