2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / teaching people to knit... on: January 17, 2005 07:46:55 PM
I'm an RA at ny school and I kind of volunteered to put on a program teaching people how to knit. I think I'm going to get a ton of chopsticks and the huge pounds of acrylic red heart yarn and rolling them into balls. I expect about 20 people to show up at this.
How would I go about teaching that many people how to cast on, go a basic garter stitch and then bind off to that amount of people? Has anyone done anything like that before? I have a few ideas, but I was just wondering what you all thought. Grin
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / manipulating metal on: November 18, 2004 01:15:45 PM
Hi everyone!
I am making my dad a clock for x-mas and I want to make the face of the clock out of metal. Like take a small sheet of metal and throw a clock-making kit in there, throw some #'s on and hooray, it's a clock.

What is a good type of metal to use that is pliable, and that I could probably cut a hole in the middle for the clock kit? Thanks
4  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / how did you know??? on: February 16, 2004 08:14:08 PM
I'm thinking about starting this whole online business thing, even though I am as busy as anything, and I probably shouldn't.

Anyway,  I was wondering how did you come to the decision to start your business?
5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / creative names? on: February 04, 2004 06:22:08 PM
What do you think a cool name for a knitting club would be?

I'm starting a knitting club, and i asked the vice president of student association if using the good old "stitch and bitch" thing was ok, and he said i would get a lot of flack from it from old official people.

someone said to me, "totally stitching" would be an awesome name. what do you suggest?
6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / linens & things; specifically bags on: January 29, 2004 12:29:19 PM
right now i'm making a messenger bag out of a cheap towel and some cute cotton fabric for lining. i'm doing the same for a cool little purse. will i have to change the needle on my mom's sewing machine? will a regular needle go through 2 layers of towel and 2 layers of cotton?

8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / baby stuffies!!! on: January 24, 2004 10:54:33 AM
my best friend is having a baby; i just found out this morning, being the diy-er i am, i instantly thought i need to knit her something. the question is, is there a point to knitting her kid a sweater if they live in South Carolina? it is warm down there for most of the year.plus i'm pretty new at the whole knitting thing. should i just go with a blanket just to be on the safe side? or should i be daring and try to make... a sweater!
