1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: acrylic? perspex? on: July 07, 2006 05:57:55 AM
I've been trying to find out about this too with no luck, I used shrinky dinks to try out a brooch idea and then I put some of that Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel (UTEE) on the top to make it shiny.  It worked great but I don't know how durable it is, would love to get into acrylic or perspex (will try a and post a pic when i get home Cheesy )
2  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Re: resin beads-resin dye? on: May 18, 2006 03:54:26 AM
Hi does anyone know if you can use glass paint (water based or spirit based, I have both!) to dye resin?
Also, can you paint it?  I would like to try these bracelets and I was thinking of painting the backs after they are finished.

4  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Discussion and Questions / Re: Faux Screenprinting and PVA glue: a warning for UK craftsters! on: March 21, 2006 04:56:51 AM
I am in the UK - our local Hobbycraft store used to sell Mod Podge but their supplier went into liquidation, they suggested I try John Lewis.  But, you can buy it on-line here in the UK, if you search for mod podge on google loads of links come up - here is one http://www.doart.co.uk/acatalog/Glue1.html  and another one http://www.artbasehornchurch.com/acatalog/Scrapbooking_Online__Adhesives_5.html they have loads of different sorts of mod podge (shipping is cheaper at this second one)   Grin
I would try a local arts/crafts shop first

thank you all very much Cheesy
so how 'toxic' is 'toxic'?  what happens?  (I did wonder about fumes having avidly read the CD cooking thread)
the polystyrene i used started off green and goes almost black, but it doesn't smoke or anything, just shrinks, it probably only takes about 60 seconds at 190 degrees C - when you say 'burn', do you mean actually with flames/smoke?  (doesn't do that!!)

i'm so excited, after weeks of looking at all the brilliant ideas and trying some out, i think i've come up with one of my own   Grin

i cut up one of those foam polystyrene trays you get tomatoes in from the supermarket and sprinkled some different sorts of embossing powder on it and put it in the oven for a few minutes.
the pieces shrank and the embossing powder embossed and they looked WKD !!
