1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Zipper Pulls on: March 19, 2012 03:37:59 PM
Hmm, googling isn't coming up with adequate answers so I turn to you craftsters!

I want to remove the zipper pull (not the slider) on my purse because I don't like the way it sits horizontally (I prefer it sit vertically). How does one go about removing such a thing off of a metal zipper?? I can't think of anything short of... cutting the darn thing off with metal cutters..??

Thanks for the wisdom!

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Overlapping zippers on: July 24, 2007 01:02:13 AM
Hmm, I know how to sew normal zippers (baste seam, line up zipper, sew) but I'm trying to sew a hidden-ish fabric overlapping zipper for the side of a skirt. I'm unsure about how to approach this. Can someone explain or direct me to a tutorial online?
3  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / A scarf: to knit or crochet on: January 21, 2007 01:19:56 PM
So here's the situation: I want to make a scarf for a friend (nothing fancy - just a basic.. normal scarf that won't roll up at the sides!)  and in the interest of time and easiness - what would you recommend? Crochet or knit? The thing is: I don't know how to do either! I do eventually want to learn to crochet to make those adorable animals though *melt*. I spent so many hours on crafster just admiring them.. but I digress.

So yes, please direct me somehow.
4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Webbing on: January 18, 2007 11:20:59 PM
Just curious - is webbing readily available in fabric stores or walmart?
5  CLOTHING / Shoes: Discussion and Questions / Rubber Rainboots on: November 13, 2006 03:26:24 AM
I've been thinking about painting rubber raintboots.. question is what paint will stay waterproof?
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Problems with a duck down jacket.. on: October 11, 2005 04:16:49 PM
I bought a TNA duck down jacket awhile ago and it seems it won't stop shedding! The little feathers come out of the seams of the lining and it drives me insane. Any ideas on how to reduce/stop it? I thought about putting clear nailpolish over the seams even..

Any ideas?
7  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Question: What ever happend to.. on: October 06, 2005 11:25:19 PM
the thread about the books made into clocks? Someone used to make those here and I can't find it to save my life now.

8  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Fabric hole mender on: September 04, 2005 06:48:45 PM
Can anyone recommend a fabric hole mender? I recently purchased a hoodie (sweatshirt material) and it has a tiny hole. I live in Canada and would love to hear recommendations that can be purchased through a big retail store.
9  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Oversized Men's Hoodie --> Zip-up hoodie with corset detail. (Better pics) on: August 12, 2005 02:43:50 AM
I FINNALLY finished this although I started awhile ago.
Before. (not an actual before picture o'course haha)

Sorry the picture quality's bad. My batteries for the digital are dead and so I just used the webcam.

So I recharged my batteries so here are some better pictures:

I find it easier to take pictures of things on the floor rather than on me with the digital camera.

The ribbon catches the light well doesn't it? (I'm easily distracted by shiny things..) It's not as blue IRL though. A bit darker.

(the old webcam pictures:)

close up on the ribbons

I pretty much made it up as I went along. I re-did everything like re-size/re-attatch the sleeves and re-attach the hood. I dont think I attatched the hood using the right way but eh, it worked. I made it about 3/4 of the length I began with. (used to hit mid-thigh) And I used eyes for the ribbons, if you were curious. Grommets seem hard to deal with. But the eyes were pretty small so getting the ribbons to fit through them weren't easy either. The zipper was a biatch because the band and the hoodie doesn't.. "sit straight" if that makes any sense. The band's smaller so it was hard. I had to redo it a few times. Lips sealed

That's all folks. Comments highly 'ppreciated.
10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Any ideas on how to make black black again? on: July 26, 2005 04:27:14 AM
If that was anyway understandable, haha, we all know black clothing doesn't stay so black after a few washes. So, any ideas or tips on how to make it black again? I was thinking on the lines of clothing dye or something but I have no clue on any of that.

Oh, and since I'm asking questions.. how do you keep a ribbon from fraying? I'm wanting to use ribbon for my hoodie (through the hood) and I'm not sure how to keep the ends from fraying... ideas?
