1  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Elann's pinwheel sweater on: October 18, 2007 02:17:38 PM
One of my knitting group members has made this and I thought I'd pass on this;

when she blocked it the i-cord edging was bunching up and not as large in diameter as the knitted circle - she tried to ease it with blocking and the i-cord snapped. [gah!]

It is also on the naughty step but I thought I'd mention it as she must have significantly changed her gauge for the i-cord so... knit loose as poss for the i-cord!! I may use bigger needles.

It's taken me about 3 months and I've just started the sleeves - I do have a gazzilion other projects though so I rarely focus on one for too long.

It's come out about 10cms too small in diameter at the moment so it's on the naughty step...

I just got an idea.  Well I'm probably not the first to think of it, but anyways...

When Evie grows out of her sweater, I'm going to take out the sleeves, sew up the holes, and turn it into a rug.  That way she never really outgrows it.

that's such a lovely idea! Smiley

I'm having the same worry - I'm trying to decide whether it's worth threading a piece of yarn through, taking it off the circs and trying it on...

My gauge was totally on, but when I finished CPH it didn't match - I had to stretch it quite a bit to get it wide enough, and the length was too long - I coulda cried but it all came out beautifully in the blocking and I've never been out of it since! see http://socherryknit.blogspot.com/2007/04/central-park-hoodie-complete.html

Which just goes to show that stupid gauge swatches lie! Smiley grr! But there is the failsafe of a much wider button band [i did this] if it is too narrow, and i really don't think it could be too long - but that's maybe just me.

If i did it again i would knit the front panels wider and use the sleeve shaping and sleeve for the size up as these were quite snug.

The circs aren't needed til picking up for the hood so you can cast on! Unless youre planning on doing it in the round, there is no knitting in the round, she just used circs cos it's easier for the hood bit than straights.

Can't wait to see - the CPH KAL is still alive and kicking by the way http://cphkal.blogspot.com/

I'm planning on buying a few different ribbons - you could tie the different coloured ribbon to the end of the other one, pull it through, and have a selection of colours, depending on mood and outfit!

Glad it looks OK :0)
I found picking up the pocket the most difficult thing to do.
