Details of swap(I totally stole this info from art dolls 3 by Smmart just fyi) :

We will swap 1 doll (Considered a large) with one partner. These are mixed media art dolls so you can use fabric, paper, metal, natural materials, buttons, charms, etc. You will list several themes for your partner to work around but you also understand that not everyone will be knowledgeable about your particular favorites. So you can say "Nature" as one of your themes but "Babylon 5" might be too scary/difficult for someone who doesn't share your love of those characters.

We are calling this an "art doll" swap - what does that mean exactly? Well, it means different things to different folks. I don't want to put my particular definition here but let's agree that the dolls will be 6" to 12" tall, made with fabric, paper and whatever else you use in your art work and will represent one or more of the themes your partner lists. Here is Wikipedia's definition:

"Art dolls are dolls created by artists and intended as expressive and unique art objects rather than children's toys. Art dolls made by professional artists may be considered fine art. Made using a wide variety of styles and media, some are abstract or tribal, while others are incredibly realistic. They range from dolls with pre-manufactured parts to being wholly fabricated by the artist or sculptor. The term "art dolls" usually refers to human-like dolls, but not always. Art dolls can depict animals, mythical creatures, or abstract beings."

The best way to express your desires for making and receiving is through communication. Please chat with your partner so they know what you want. Again, no guarantee that each of us has the same skills or sewing proficiency to make exactly what you think you want. I'll include lots of questions to help partners get to know what each other wants.

The other component for a great swap , in my opinion, is to have fun, try something new and don't overextend yourself. Choose a project that you want to make - not something that is too hard for you to achieve.

Here are the galleries from previous swaps - art dolls and JunkerJane-style dolls:

5  Moon and Star Dotee in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by The Raging Sloth on: March 18, 2019 06:50:16 PM
I made this for CraftyLittleMonkey in the recent Dotee swap. I had a very specific image for ot once I got past my original idea that just wasn't flying for me for some reason. I embroidered the designs on the moon on both sides and did edging with seed beads.  The star has some yellow lace on it to make it not TOO bright.

Thanks for looking!

6  The Crawling Chaos Textile Bracelet in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by The Raging Sloth on: March 17, 2019 01:00:29 PM
I made this textile bracelet just for me! It's a little wide but I still like it. I call it "The Crawling Chaos" because I was inspired by H.P. Lovecraft Shoggoths and moss.

For the eyes I used safety eyes then literally burnt down the stubs. It left weird little feather-light pieces of plastic floating around in the air because I just lit the plastic nub on fire then squashed out the fire with a piece of tinfoil so it was flat. Unorthodox? Lmao. I just really wanted to use some of those eyes I had in my stash.

And yes, I need to update the swaps stuff right now but I have to get on my computer for that and right now I'm on my phone so I will in a little bit. Lol

Thanks for looking!

9  Re: Color in a Box 2019 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by The Raging Sloth on: March 11, 2019 05:37:41 PM
OMG you guys, you're gonna have to see this to believe it! Endymion sent me the MOST AMAZING package!!! I swear to Gaia I cried a little bit opening it. It was so exciting!!!!

It's an Automaton! It's a fabric bird lady automaton!!!! I've never seen anything like it!! It's amazing right?!?!??!??! HOLY COW my jaw is still on the floor somewhere.  Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked The medal around her neck says " I want to be improbable and afraid of nothing as if I had wings." Which is really inspiring and not a quote I've really heard. Beautiful and really, this is perfect for me. I have been quickly and finally moving forward with my life now and I feel very excited to be free.  Smiley More pics!!:

She sewed and embroidered and tinkered and... omg HOW?!?! I was looking at her pinterest and saw she had all this beginning automaton information which I thought was really cool and maybe I would like to try it one day but I had no idea she would make one for me?!??! YAASS

She even made the base cool?Huh Like where'd she get this "Purple edition" tin thing? Maybe a can? So brilliant! seems she rolled some of the tin around the crank too and made the handle for the crank out of clay! There's even a little celtic-braid-type edge along the bottom.

I think you can't really post videos here and I need to wait til my spouse gets home to try and take a video but then I don't know where to put it??? I want you guys to see it in action!!!

Here's the rest of the package!

SO. PURPLE.

Endymion's son made this voodoo doll and it has an amethyst in it! Her son is talented too!

She said she made these a while ago and these are just so great! I can't crechet worth shit so this frame is great and so cute and I've never received a journal like this before.  Shocked

it has all these different-sourced recycled pages in it!

GAH! I'm just so floored, You have no idea! and I tried to give everything justice in photos with my crap cell phone. Thank you SO.SO. MUCH. Endymion!

10  Re: Re: Hannibal "Teesha Moore"-style Bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by The Raging Sloth on: March 10, 2019 10:15:44 AM
You did an amazing job! It really looks great. I had to look up Wendigo and I am almost sorry I did, the mythology states their origin is RIGHT WHERE WE LIVE, Yikes!
Nice braided handle too, I remember when people here first started making bags from TM squares and were working to figure out good ways to create handles. I don't remember who first came up with the braid...
I went looking and the earliest sample I could find was photo frame Abbeeroad made for a swap. Did you see that somewhere Abbee or did you make it up and we all followed you? It is genius no matter where it came from, suits this bag to a T!

I wanna say the handle idea was Sheepblue?

Yeah Wendigos are a native American myth but this particular wendigo is more Hannibal-specific. Here's an example:

Thanks so much!
