1  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / U.K. AND IRELAND / ****Knitflicks in Liverpool**** on: August 25, 2007 10:08:06 AM
Hi everyone,

Not sure if anything has been posted about this but just looked in the new FACT cinema guide and there is a Knitflicks event on.

Its on 15th September at 3.30pm and the film is Atonement (based on Ian McEwan book starring Keira Knightly and the lovely James McAvoy, its a 15 rating). Apparantly theres free tea and coffee in the bar afterwards too.

Cant wait!
2  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Saucy cocktails and canapes help! on: June 19, 2007 01:06:42 PM
Not sure if this is the right place but hopefully someone can help me out.

Im having an Ann Summers party for my birthday next week and need some food and drink help.

I want to make cocktails but obviously they have to have saucy/rude names (its important to have a theme), at the mo I can only think of Sex on the Beach and the searches Ive done on google havent come to much. I dont want to go out buying too many different spirits (ive got vodka, gin and peach schnapps) so does anyone have any ideas for other cocktails/punch I could make relatively cheaply???

Also I need to do some food (to stop us getting too drunk) and need similarly saucy ideas. Any suggestions?

Thanks. xxxx
3  CITY GUIDES FOR CRAFTSTERS / U.K. AND IRELAND / Anyone in Liverpool??? on: April 11, 2007 02:55:54 AM

Ive just moved up to Liverpool and am a little bit bored!!! (god bless unemployment...or not)

Just wondered if there was any craft groups around, or anyone willing to join one? I mostly knit but do sewing (badly) and embroidery. I know theres a stitch n bitch on Smithdown Road in Wavertree but I live smack in the middle of the city centre and its a bit of a trek.

Any suggestions please let me know. xxxx
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Great British Village Show! on: May 29, 2006 01:30:54 PM
Right I have to warn you, this annoyed the hell out of me and I just wanted to know if Im having a normal reaction or Im being over the top and maybe need to lie down!

Open Simply Knitting (yawnfest this month) and read about this new BBC show called "Great Britsh Village Show" where "members of the public will complete in numerous categories from tallest sunflower to best knitted garment. Entries are being taken for six regional heats to be held in Somerset, Sussex, Derbyshire, Cardiff, Cambridgeshire and Yorkshire"

Right now Im all for knitting being taken to the widest audience but Im afraid lumping it in with tallest sunflower and no doubt the biggest onion competition (god us Brits! we do know how to party) is just rubbish! Talk about making it for the grannies again (not that there is anything wrong with nans, i am super jealous of both my nans knitting skills and super cool old lady style). And dont even get me started on the locations! I live in the west midlands, I cant remember the last time I went to a shire county let alone saw a tree that wasnt dying of smog! It doesnt even cover all the country!

Anyway, rant over, sorry for having to write this but its annoyed me and I needed to share!!!!!!!!xx

5  COOKING / Dessert / indian doughnut help! on: March 06, 2006 09:48:36 AM
On masterchef the other night this lady cooked these indain doughnuts. I missed what they were called because I was too busy squelling in jealousy because they looked sooooooo good. Anyway they were like doughnuts but well different! They hasd saffron in them and maybe a custard and then fried in balls. They looked so good and just wondered if anyonne had a recipe or even heard of them before?
6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / petersham ribbon? on: February 24, 2006 09:43:19 AM
Not sure if this isthe right place to post but here goes.

Im making a knitted bag and the pattern says the handle needs petersham ribbon threading through it.

What is it and where can i buy it (UK or internet)?

I looked on ebay and "petersham nurses" and I got scared as it sounded a bit pervy!!!!

7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / yarn sub in vintage pattern help on: February 22, 2006 12:11:59 PM
I tried hard to find it on internet but to no avail and my head hurts from the numbers.

So can anyone help?

I have a super lovely pattern I would like to knit - its a cable jumper.
The wool stated in the pattern is called Sirdar Pullman and the needle sizes are 5 1/2 mm and 6 1/2mm.

The tension gauge (which causes me the most pain) goes like this:
"15 stitches (one pattern) to 7.5cm; 14 rows (one pattern) to 8cm; 14 stitches to 10cm over stocking stitch"

Anyway maybe some one could help me out please? What the %$&* does that all mean and any suggestions for subs?

Hello! Just wondering how many of you crafty folk are taking part in nanowrimo this year?
Its my second year and could do with some crafty moral support! Plan is not going too well but my main character will be doing some knitting! Glad Novembers still a bit away.

For anyone who doesnt know nanowrimo is a challenge where you write a 50000word novel in November (www.nanowrimo.org)
