1  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re: HELP! I need ideas! on: April 20, 2005 09:40:56 AM
Tote bags would be good, they are always useful to have...in 7th grade home-ec we had to make gym shorts (and then wear them to gym! and mine were pretty poorly constructed) but i am guessing that you won't have access to several sewing machines..

You could make candles, have them do cross-stitch for their homes, make wind chimes or sun-catchers.  High-school and jr.high..hmm maybe you could have them make and decorate their own blank journals and then they can also use them throughout the summer as they make other things.  also greeting cards for friends/family or picture frames.  Do they have a kiln available?  It's hard to get into more skilled projects without knowing what resources would be available. There is so much!  You have such an amazing summer coming up!

You should also check out the finished projects and tuturials to see things- they often spark totally new ideas!  also if there are specific things that you want advice on supplies or tutorials, make sure to post it, everyone that i have encounterred here has been so helpful and great!
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re: pillows on: April 20, 2005 09:30:32 AM
If these pillows are more for decoration you could also think of making some out of old t-shirts (such as a great thirft store one that just doesn't fit).  You could also decorate them with fabric paint- especially with word stencils, or put on iron-ons like pics form your computer printed on to iron-on paper (probably want to do that before sewing, or just on the cases).  Have fun, the room sounds like it will look reallly cool as well as being safe if you have any pets that have difficulty stopping when they get to running by the walls like my friends puppy does on his hardwood floors,hmmm..maybe i should suggest this pillow idea!
3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re: Help with re-covering couch on: April 20, 2005 09:23:03 AM
I agree- I have done it with a staple gun and only sewn the cushion covers and it worked great (I didn't remove the old fabric or anything, but I much admire the ladies that do so).  I must also admit now that the first one I ever did, we used a hot glue gun.  We had the couch for a year and it held fine, but if you have a beloved couch I would definitely go the more sturdy route.

p.s i just tried to post this and i got a message saying while typing another message was posted- it said that you stapled and it all worked great- so glad to hear it!

well, you posted this a long time ago so you probably have already thought of better ways, but I would just spray the frame with and adhesive and maybe hot glue the edges on the inside.  At least that seems like it might work... Wink
5  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re: drawer handles and knobs on: April 10, 2005 02:30:56 PM
wow, this is probably way too late but you can make really awesome totally custom resin knobs/handles.  I am pretty new to this whole forum so there may already be posts about them or even tutuorials.  If there is any interest maybe i could tell people how to do it or post something...i suppose the first thing would be to post images of ones that I have done..
6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: The Hipslinger (aka The Fanny Pack) on: April 09, 2005 12:12:47 PM
I've been wearing thriftstore fanny packs (yes, they are incredibly convenient, but soemtimes i still freak out that i have forgotten my purse somewhere) but have been wanting to make some so that i am not always stuck covering up whatever lame logos they have one them- i really love the way you did the belt closures too, so cute!
