21  Re: HELP I need to make curtains in Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions by courtlet on: November 12, 2005 09:49:34 PM
Fabric shower curtains are awesome.  I found one at Bed, Bath, and Beyond for like $20, I think.  I cut mine in two and sewed a seam up the raw edges to make two curtains but if your window is really big, you could also just buy two.  I also used those paper blinds that are pretty cheap ($5 or so at Target).  They let in a little light but keep out all peeping toms.  Grin  I wouldn't recommend them for a window that you will be opening and closing a lot as they are not very strong.

The final product:

Any feedback (including negative) would be appreciated! I plan to make a bunch to sell so I would like to hear any ideas for improvement...as well as price.

One as a thank you gift:

And two for birthdays!

My version of the messenger with gusset...

To give you an idea of the size, it fits my 14 inch ibook plus a binder or two.  However, I didn't make it for me so now it holds my roommates school books!  Smiley

24  Re: DORM--IDEAS NEEDED in Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions by courtlet on: September 27, 2005 03:22:17 PM
I found this stuff at HomeDepot...I call it stuff because I don't know the name... Smiley Helpful, I know.

Anyway, it's not quite wood, and it's not quite particle board. It has a really smooth surface, great for painting, it's ~1/8 inch thick and it's LIGHTWEIGHT!  I bought three 2'x2' squares, painted them purple, and then stuck 4x6" acrylic frames in the center of them.  I put old black and white family photos in the frames. The great thing is that the material is pretty lightweight so I stuck it up on my stark white apt walls using velcro (not sewing velcro, the kind you can buy at HomeDepot that is made for stuff like this!).  Being acrylic meant the frames weighed next to nothing so they are also attached using velcro.

Not sure how the velcro stuff would work on cement walls but it's worth a try.  The squares add quite a bit of color with not a lot of work.  Just an idea.

I have recently become obsessed (I know that's a strong word, but it's true) with making bags of all shapes and sizes.  Every time I look at this forum I am both inspired and humbled...you all are amazing!

Here are a few of the first bags I made:

My first messenger style, a bday gift:

Sorry the photos are so boring! I think I'll be more creative next time. : )
Hope you like them. Any feedback is more than welcome and appreciated!
