11  Re: Monthly Odd Holidays- January/February Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by mini_mum on: February 15, 2013 03:45:55 PM
WOW - haven't dropped in for a while, and kicking myself for missing so many amazing packages!

I especially love the yarn (want to start spindle spinning this year), the dragon needle book (he's SO cute! Smiley ) and the guerilla bird feedin kit Smiley

After quite awhile struggling with snow, anxiety/depression, side effects from med increases, trying to organise a 4th birthday party and DS2 going down with Chicken Pox we finally seem to be coming out the other side and finally managed to take pictures of the wonderful package I received from whenindoubtsew:

for when I read in the bath - an inflatable bath pillow

to help me appreciate dragons:

and inside the lovely pouch were these amazing earrings:

Sorry the image isn't better, but this is the best I could manage with the camera on my phone

This one is really clever - kite flying, polar bear AND art for your heart - 3 in one, and it is wonderful!!

and on opening up:

watercolour pencils, watercolour pad, paint brush and fine-liner pen!! How cool  Cool Had hospital appoint today and took it with me and it was just what I needed while I was waiting  Cheesy

As if that wasn't enough she also sent this

for national weddings month Smiley

Thank you SO much Kylie, LOVE everything you sent!

jenleahlynn - love the way you incorporated the face into the flower and the colours are great.

trinalocakary - love the idea of a making changes journal

LFF - love the page - the colour, texture and embellishments all work so well together

Smmarrt - I'm struggling with backgrounds, so thank you for pointing in the direction of those vids - had a quick look and think they are going to be useful Smiley

I have been trying to catch-up with my 'Embrace the Day' class, but not having much success  Roll Eyes but here are the 3 pages I have managed to do (only 4 behind now Sad )

(the pictures should all be the right way up, but if they aren't it's the photo system playing up)

just loving the projects that everyone is posting.

Here a couple of felting samples I made yesterday:

This one started off as a square of fabric, then I added some PINK and RED (February Challenge) wool diagonally, along with a small pink circle of wool and felted it. Really didn't know what would happen with it, but love the way that it turned itself into a fish Smiley going to keep it and possibly will use it on the wall hanging.

This one was a flat piece made in the normal way, pleated it then wrapped it in cling-film and microwaved it to 'fix' the pleats.

WOW - I didn't realised I'd done quite so many art journal pages so far this year!! 12, including Jan and Feb pages for the Calendar Challenge!!!

I won't post them all here - they are over on the 2013 art journal along page at this point. Every single one of those pages was for ME - to try and get rid of whatever it is thats making my brain 'fart' so spectacularly at the moment.

Also for me are these 2 felt pieces:

I am going to embellish this flower with yellow beads and thread in the middle, then use it on the hessian wall hanging - yeah - the wall hanging is now officially a WIP  Grin

and this little vase:

It needs a bit more work on it so it stands up a bit better, but for a first piece done around a form, not bad I thought  Cool

15  Re: journaling prompt swap - GALLERY :) in The Swap Gallery by mini_mum on: January 29, 2013 02:07:27 PM
ok - so I have given up on DH clearing the scanner for me  Roll Eyes

I took my cards and used them as part of my English assessment on Friday (had to give a short presentation - I did mine on Craftster and swapping) and they all got mixed up, so I have just taken group shots of them - I'm sure we can work out who each card is from anyway Smiley

And my personal favourites:

The 'Use black, white and one colour' one made me laugh - just the previous night I had done this:

to practice doodling!

I also go the postcard and business card from fabricfriend - love the 'hi there' that was hiding under the postcard Smiley

Sorry the pictures don't do justice to the cards and the artwork on them, but could be waiting another year for DH to clear the scanner  Roll Eyes

Thank you everyone - super swap, and now going to think about round 2 Smiley

(oh - and can I second the request for tutorial on how the transparencies were done please?)

This little fella was a complete surprise!
Went to first ceramics lesson tonight, and was just playing with a lump of clay when this fella (or is it a fellette? not sure yet) started to appear. It really is for ME - I <3 dragons, and the class is my space too Smiley

I've not been too good the past few days - I call it a 'brain fart' cos it just doesn't want to work at all and I struggle to do even the simplest of things (like getting up in the morning or remembering what I'm supposed to be doing next) so going to 2 new classes today was a real struggle, but helped by knowing the venue I was going to and also knowing the tutor (same one for both).

The first one was felt making - I made a flower but haven't taken pictures yet.

The second one was ceramics and having had bus issues (missing one, next one being 15 minutes late, grrrr) I was short of time, but still managed to make this:

I didn't put wings on as wasn't sure about shape, security of them and I wasn't confident I could do them properly, and obviously it needs firing and glazing, but couldn't wait to share Smiley

been very busy recently - but can't post most of what I've been up to yet because they are for swaps Tongue

What I can show you are the art journal pages I've been working on.

The February page for the art journal challenge:

The Pirates and the space in between them are for DS1's 4th birthday - he's having a pirate party Smiley Not sure how I am going to journal that, which is why I've left it blank and not put a journalling spot in.
The bottom right corner has a little bit of journalling as it's our 5th un-anniversary this year Smiley

I've got some more pages, from the 'Embrace the Day' class, but not photographed them yet.

OH - I also did biscuits with DS1 a few days ago (GO ME!!!!)
He saw them in his magazine, and kept on about them until we made them (and he's still on about them even though we've eaten them all)

And does making snowmen count??

Really bad image, sorry:

I'm in Smiley Great motivation to do things for ME - I usually either do things for my boys (so sort of for me) or do swaps to get things for me, but would be great to make some things myself too.
I have some WIP's to finish and some birthday and Christmas pressies to use/learn to do.

Green = WIP

1. finish shrug DONE Cheesy
2. slippers - knit/crochet
3. learn to carve stamps DONE Smiley - were for swap but will do some for ME as well
4. learn to spin with spindle kit WIP Smiley
5. learn to dye with dye from spindle kit
6. Art Journal Calendar challenge (December to finish challenge, but will list when I've finished the pages done: 5/12 see some HERE)
7. 'Embrace the Day' on-line course (lots of pages done - you can see some of them HERE) DONE Cheesy
8. up-cycle black velvet skirt and dress into something I can wear
9. make some sort of wall art for our bedroom
10. make at least one birthday cake* Epic fail on that one Sad
11. knit some socks
12. start hessian wall hanging (big project - will take forever, but need to get it started as been mulling it for about 2 1/2 years now!) (YES - now a WIP!!)
13. do something with 4 years worth of pictures of my babies
14. finish the blue doily started by Grandma
15. a jumper/cardigan
16. Altered book (you can see these HERE - same place as the Embrace the Day pages) 3 shareable pages done.

more than 12 - but room to flake on some Tongue

* cooking/baking is a biggy for me as it triggers my panic/anxiety disorder! I have 4 chances to do this

Completed projects

First 2 calendar challenge pages:

(not finished yet - needs firing/glazing, but happy with this little fella Wink he survived the firing - glazing next)  He's all done and in our new display cabinet Cheesy

from felt making class: this will go on the wall hanging Smiley
