31  My turquoise obsession.... in Beads: Completed Projects by dewshinesdopp on: June 10, 2012 08:07:50 AM
Lately I have been just crazy about the color turquoise.  I seem to gravitate toward it everywhere I go.  Well, I decided to make something so that hopefully it will get out of my head for awhile.

I have about 6 unfinished projects, but these are the three I completed so far- all are on a butterfly theme, because I had a belt that I re-purposed into several focal pieces.

It was supposed to be a necklace, bracelet and earrings, but in my desire to make it nifty, I went about 2 inches overboard and wound up with an anklet instead Tongue

Thanks for looking! C&C are much appreciated.  Smiley

I love the Bertrum Pictures!  He looks like he had way too much fun!

Those skirts are ~Ah.MAZE.Ing~ Smeddley!   Charlie looks like he had a blast.

I have been a complete slacker about posting pictures with Dee... It has been a roller-coaster couple of weeks since the wedding/cruise.  Sickness, last week of kindergarten, and tons and tons of rain have made me a lazy hostess...

But I will be taking Dee and the kids out for a while either today or tomorrow...the rain has made us all quite full of cabin fever.

We went to dinner at my favorite restaurant for my birthday- Maggiano's in Tampa.  We only go for birthdays, because it is Super Expensive- around $30 per person then drinks.  But...that does get you a "family style" Italian meal including dessert.  It's two appetizers, two salads, four entrees, and two desserts- all are "all you can eat" and they let you bring 'leftovers" home...and for them a leftover is "it was at your table- take it home".

No pictures during eating, because I was way too busy stuffing my face and groaning from the pain, but I have pictures of the "leftovers" and Dee.

Yes, that is SEVEN boxes of leftovers, plus three boxes of dessert.

Dee was poking around, trying to decide what she wanted to nibble on this early in the morning... I think we both have decided that it's a little early for cheesecake, but the apple crostini is pastry and apple, so it's Kind Of Like a Breakfast Item...She is going to have to eat it on her own though, because I am still full!

I got my hoop from Mousee23 late last night.  It is the poor hoop that got squished and rained on.  It looks like it had an adventure.  Ah well, I am sure all storm troopers came home dirty from battle at some point in time or another... Smiley

Here is the front.  I am pretty sure she swiped the "minimalist" Star Wars idea from my pinterest- good stalking!  Smiley

And here is the super cool back

Thank you so much Mousee23!  It will live with pride amongst all of my other SW hoops and be proud that it survived the battle.

BTW, were the eyes patches that you found?  It's a super cool texture and I am wondering how you did it...

As promised, here are ~some~ of the pictures from our trip to Disney Animal Kingdom Lodge and aboard the Disney Dream, and Castaway Cay.

I will post the rest of them to Dee's blog later this week.  Unfortunately the bride and groom were ill and about 45 people are now coming down with a cold...including me.

Last Friday, we went to Animal Kingdom Lodge.  We were in a huge Villa.  Dee and I went onto the balcony the next morning, overlooking the animal reserve that is on site at the resort.  Dee and I agree, the view is beautiful. But...the early morning scent was enough to make both of us go hide under the bed!  Fortunately, she was willing to share the space with me.

While we were there, we had a bunch of fun exploring and looking for Hidden Mickeys.  We were informed later that there are very specific rules to what exactly is a "hidden Mickey".  And, sadly, all of the ones we found were not "hidden".  Apparently to qualify to be a HM, it must be a certain style, with the ears a certain distance apart, may not be part of a pattern or repeat in any way.  According to the nice tour guide we spoke with, all of the books that tell you about the HM's have at least one error about what exactly is a HM.

This nifty "HM" isn't one.  It's wrong for almost every single reason:  It's a hat, not a Mickey and it's a repeating pattern.  *sigh* Well, we had fun anyway Smiley

And, finally, for now:
The view from our balcony overlooking Port Canaveral.  Not the prettiest thing to look at, I know.  But there will be much more coming soon!

As expected, my partner Elameno spoiled me rotten, and I did ~not~ do near enough... Sad  I must apologize in advance.  I am technologically inept and can NOT post pictures that don't make your neck hurt.  Eventually, I will learn how...I swear!  Undecided

She told me in the beginning that she would make something for my 6 year old, SW obsessed, son.  She did...but I don't think I am going to share   Wink

She sent me the most wonderful extras, and a lovely note...which I totally forgot to do for her.   I am starting with the extras, just to build your anticipation Smiley

First up is an awesome autograph from James Arnold Taylor, who is the voice actor for Obi Wan Kenobi and Plo Koon in SW Clone Wars.  She got it at Disney Hollywood Studios here in Florida for SW Weekends in 2010.  I was actually there that year- we probably passed each other in the park Smiley

Next is a super cool coloring/sticker book which my 6 year old has already attempted to run away with.  It has stickers that you use on the pages then complete the coloring.

Most happily, she made it to Free Comic Book Day and got the SW comic.  This makes me super happy, because I wasn't able to get there that day!

Next is something super cool!  It is stickers from SW Celebration V (2010).  I have never been to SW Celebration, and actually didn't even know it exists until this year.  It is ~way~ outside of my budget, but I know that she is planning on attending this year as well.

Now for the crafty goodness that makes me feel so very inferior...

She made me a Fett Necklace!  My favorite bounty hunter, around my neck!  No action shot, because I am feeling "blah".  But...check this out!

An oh-so-awesome apron!  I guess she read my mind about wanting more SW kitchen things, because she made me THIS! Smiley Smiley Smiley
The look on my boy's face is annoyance because that was picture number 5.  He kept grinning and jumping, which made for blurry, unusable pictures and a grumpy mommy.  He finally stood still, but looked like that...

The thing she claims is for my son, but just isn't...mostly because my Husband snagged it Smiley
A SW checker board!  Made of GLASS!!! How awesome is that?? It's super cool.  She took a piece of scrapbook paper and attached it to the bottom of a glass board.  Pure genius, and pure simplicity.  Of course, now I must hunt down that scrapbook paper... Tongue

And, along with it: Pieces to play with, and instructions for playing the game:
Death Star Battle:  Tie Fighters vs X-wings... If you get a King, flip it to get a Millenium Falcon or Darth's fighter...but remember:  Let the Wookie Win!

Super cool!  So happy, and so guilty that I didn't do more...

Thank you so much for a super awesome swap!

36  Re: Little Visitor Swap 15 (SU 3/12-3/19) FULL - SIGNUPS CLOSED in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by dewshinesdopp on: May 18, 2012 05:57:13 AM
We are back, and mostly unpacked!  Dee saw some pretty amazing things, and we got tons of photos.  None of Nassau, though.  We accidentally left my son's best friend X-Mouse (a stuffed dog) back at home, and were on a desperate quest to find a new friend to alleviate some child trauma.

Lots of ship pictures and Castaway Cay pictures, will be coming your way before the weekend is out.  I will post a few at a time.  Smiley

Here is one to start with...taken by my 6 year old:

I got back from my trip to an awesome hoop from redstar13 for my Star Wars theme:

A simple quote, known all across the universe...

I love it! She did the neatest thing, also!  She gave it a soda can pop top hook to hang it with.  Hot glued to the back! I never would have thought of something so awesome!  Smiley

Thanks Redstar!

38  Re: Ongoing ATC Swap - April 2012's Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by dewshinesdopp on: May 09, 2012 01:48:12 PM
I got both of my awesome ATC's from Mini_mum today, along with an awesome extra!

My two amazing ATC's from her- both for my numbers theme Smiley

We discovered that we both adore Terry Pratchett, and Discworld...so she sent me a Book as the protective covering for the ATC's.  How awesome is that???

Thank you so much for everything!  The ATCs are AMAZING!  And yay for a Discworld book I haven't read!  Sweet!

39   Re: Personal/Private Swap Gallery, 2012 in The Swap Gallery by dewshinesdopp on: April 23, 2012 03:49:05 PM
Mini_mum and I did a Personal TI/SOB swap.  We both had some things happen, so there were delays in shipping, but my package arrived today, and there are no words to describe how much she spoiled me!

Hugely picture OBESE!  I will try the thumbnail thing, so hopefully it will be better.  She shipped a package that weight 9.98 kg from the UK to the USA!  I ~can not even begin~ to comprehend just how expensive that must have been!

Anyway, on with the goodness, so that you will all know what a phenomenal swap partner she is!

First thing when I opened the package was this box

Inside it was this pile of little things...OMG! SO many little packages!  My husband politely requested that I wait to open until after he left, because my SQUEE's were giving him a headache.

Inside the yellow one was this BEAUTIFUL necklace that is several strands braided together. The beads are amethyst nuggets and shell bits.   She requested that I put the clasp on- Absolutely, I can do that, and can't wait to wear it!
It did not photograph well, and I will try again.

In the other packages (remember, this is just the first thing to open) there was a huge assortment of chocolate.  My mother requested "English Chocolate" and now that I have tried it, I understand completely why it is that when my mother said those two words it sounded exactly like it was "bold, in italics and underlined".  Apparently, I have been being given a very poor substitute all of this time... I am actually considering moving, just for the chocolate Smiley

Mini_mum's very first ATC ever and her second ever Zentangle- all in one, and all for me!  I am truly spoiled Smiley

the prettiest Celtic Knot work fabric ever!  I already have some ideas for what to do with it Smiley

this awesome wall art

a royal decree telling everyone just how awesome I am Smiley She added a note, saying great minds think alike, because I sent her a very similar thing Smiley

an awesome tiara made of feathers and rhinestones!  I tried to do an action shot, but my cell phone ate the picture.  *sigh*

And so very much more!  I am stopping though, because it will take forever to show it all.  The pictures are posted in my photo gallery if you want to see them all Smiley

Thank you so much Mini_mum!  Looking forward to swapping again with you, super soon! Smiley

Only two pictures to upload from our hiking trip.  I have to get other parent's consent before I post pictures of their children.  We volunteered to go on a "hike" from my son's elementary school over to the park nearby- Crews Lake Park.

It was a hike with approximately 75 children, and 5 teachers, myself and one other volunteer, as well as Dee.  (Yes, I must have been going slightly bonkers to have agreed to this...)

The park is roughly half mile from the school, and is the same park/nature preserve that backs up to my house.  So...similar pictures.  We had a short "class" with the park ranger, who told us all about the area that we were in- which is built like an outdoor classroom...inside a sinkhole.  What I did not know prior to this class was that a) it was a sinkhole, and b) that there was an additional row of benches, that were underneath the ground, from where the sinkhole started to fill in.  Pretty interesting!

But, here is Dee checking out the rattlesnake rattle that the park ranger showed the kids.

Here is Dee helping a student put together a "shape puzzle" of a spider.  It was really hard!

And... As I mentioned, we had some mechanical trouble and couldn't go to the zoo today, so Dee played Kinect Disneyland Adventures with my son.  It's pretty blurry, because they were helping Tigger, Christopher Robin and Pooh collect honey pots, which involves a good deal of hopping.
