21  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Needlepainted Pansy on: September 20, 2014 05:59:28 AM
I was  just sitting here looking at some photos that I took of past projects and I thought I would share these.  This is lesson 10 from Trish Burr's book "Needle Painting Embroidery, Fresh Ideas For Beginners".  If you have been interested in learning Needle Painting I highly recommend this book.  The author makes these projects easy to stitch by providing easy outlines, color suggestions and in progress photos.  My only complaint is that I spent around $90 in floss because there is very little over lap of floss colors in the projects.  But doing the projects one at a time is affordable.  This embroidery took about 6 hours to stitch and I enjoyed it greatly.  Needle painting is very easy when the colors are already picked out.

Finished pansy.

Back of work.

Thank you for looking!

Wow!  That is an incredible amout of work!  I have no patience for cross stitch and this one looks like a life time achievement too me!  Congratulations!  I would love to see more close ups.

Wonderful cross stitch design and your stitching is so beautiful!  I can't work on a cross stitch piece for more than 10 minutes without throwing it across the room!  You really made a beautiful cross stitch and on black fabric!  Congratulations!

24  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: little girl reading embroidered Teesha Moore bookmark patch on: September 19, 2014 08:59:07 AM
So I've never made a Teesha Moore patch before but love them, so I made this for a first go practice. I based the girl on my daughter & the back fabric is Roald Dahl Matilda book fabric, I believe it's bigger than most patches but I wanted to make to become a fabric bookmark for my girl. I really enjoyed the whole process so I think I can manage a patch swap now  ;D

Very nice basket!  Did you use Tunisian crochet?  I've read articles on crocheted baskets and it is on my very long list too do.  By the way I did see any mess, just a crafting environment!

I'm very tempted by this, I've not yet made one single patch but I have been eyeing them up for a long time on craftster so bit nervous about if I am good enough

Don't worry a lot of us in the last swap were worried too!  It was a great swap with lots of amazing patches.  The patches are easy to make, the don't have to be a perfect shape in fact most people like them a bit wonky.  The edges are just whipped stitched.  The fun is making a design or some people printed fabric images to use.  A lot of patches were quilted but having the stitches show is expected.  Everyone picks themes and there will certainly be at least one theme you can use.  Then people added beads, buttons, charms, and other fun stuff they found.  The patches can be simple or as complex as you would like.  If you can sew on a button you can make a patch!  I hope you will give this swap a try.

Happy to be part of the TM swap again.  Since the last swap I started making TM patches with a Poe theme.  They are coming out really well and a bit scary!  I'm sure we will all have fun with this swap!

Project Name: Thanksgiving Doily
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: First I want to make a confession, my sister is a Muggle!  We don't talk about it much but there it is.  A few years ago she bought a large dinning room set that seats at least 10.  Like a lot of  muggles she is into family and Thanksgiving in particular.  Which shows we do have a lot in common with muggles!  So with a big birthday in 10 days and Thanksgiving coming up I though she might like a centerpiece doily for the table this year.  The idea came to me as I was looking for a tablecloth pattern and I saw the doily and I had a ball of size 10 thread just sitting around I thought perfect idea!  The doily came out 19 inches and didn't even use all the thread.  The project took 5 days to make.
