Flobot and I also went and saw Endgame on opening weekend. Didn't get a chance to snap any photos though cause the theater we went to was packed, they had even cordoned off an entrance and part of the lobby just for people coming to see Endgame Shocked

Other than the movie, I've just been doing lots around town.

We went to the library which has a lovely spring quilt on display

Flobot also helped me pick out some marigolds for a presentation I'm doing next week.

Flobot got to experience some NC bureaucracy when I had to go to the DMV to get the tag renewal stickers for my car. At least she got to help with the fun part of sticking the new sticker on my plate.

Then I went to visit my parents for a few days. There's a new doughnut shop near them called Duck Donuts! They're originally from the beach (Duck NC) but they've expanded recently into other parts of the state.

And of course while I was home I had to make a visit to the flea market at the fairgrounds. My friend and I, being the weird people that we are, bought a gallon sized ziplock back full of toy dinosaurs to share Grin Stuff from the flea market is always kinda dirty so we gave everything a bath before splitting up our loot. I wouldn't let Flobot help scrub everyone off but she helped dry.

(No, this isn't all of them. There was also a batch of tiny ones we did first)

Once everyone was clean and we got a look at them all, she found a kindred spirit in this duck-billed yellow guy.

Spring is tentatively here in the mountains of NC so we took advantage of a nice day to enjoy the outdoors at a visiting friend's cabin.

And then it was cold again like two days later, so back to making nice warm winter meals like Japanese curry.

And then finally it was Saturday and convention time!

Flobot helped me get my costume ready

And then it was off to the convention. This is a pretty small, local event so we spent the majority of our visit getting together with friends and playing tabletop. Flobot helped me run a game of Pathfinder.

Flobot has arrived in NC and she brought presents! Shocked

I'm so tempted to go buy some chocolate pudding and Oreos so I can make my favorite nature themed snack with those gummy worms.

After unpacking, we explored the house and met some avian friends.

Then it was time to get to some planning for crafting

I'm so happy this round started when it did because next weekend I'm going to a convention of anime/video games/general nerdy things. Which means costumes and cosplay, so someone needs a costume if they're going to come with me Wink

6  Glove Strap Tutorial in Costumes: Completed Projects by WingsoftheWind on: March 13, 2019 06:54:25 PM
(AKA How to include gloves in your costume without having to actually wear them Cheesy)

I got a pair of faux suede fleece-lined gloves to wear with my steampunk costume. Unfortunately, while they suit the aesthetic of the costume, due to the fleece lining they are very bulky and miserably hot to wear. So after seeing some inspiration on Pinterest I decided to make a simple strap with a belt clip to hold my gloves.

To make a strap you'll need:
- Strip of material, I used leather, that can wrap around your gloves approximately 1.5 times at their narrowest point (width may vary, my strap is about 1" wide but this could certainly work with narrower or wider material). If leather doesn't fit with your costume, this could easily be made with ribbon or some other non-fraying material
- D Ring that fits your strap width
- Clip for belt. The clip I used from the outdoor recreation section of a store, like where you'd find ropes and trailer tie-downs. This and a hardware section have tons of similar items that really suit a steampunk design, but if your costume needs a different look pretty much any oversized clip/carabiner will do. You could also just tie it onto a belt with a piece of leather cord.
- Extra material for making any additional loops that may be needed

Also you will need a needle and thread (and if using leather, tools for punching/cutting material)

To start, fold about 1" of one end of the strip around the D ring

And sew into place

Once the D ring has been secured, lay the strap down horizontally (wrong side up) and lay your gloves on top

Cinch the strap around the gloves

And then bring the tail of the strap around to the back

To hold this tail in place and keep the gloves secured, I chose to add an additional loop on the strap. You could also use a button or snap to make this closure, whatever works best for you. The tail should end about 2/3s the way around the back, at this point your should have a good idea of how the strap fits around your gloves and you can trim off any excess material as needed.

I chose not to sew or otherwise permanently attach the metal belt clip to the strap as the clip is pretty heavy and I like to make these types of large clips removable to keep them from possibly damaging other costume parts when packed for travel.

To add a clip simply lay the strap down like before and slip on the clip before you cinch the strap around the gloves

Now your gloves should be neatly packaged and ready for all your costuming adventures Cheesy

Orenji arrived back home today from his first Little Visitor Trip!

I love the cover photo for the scrapbook, it's so cute!

Some of the items deserved their own photos Smiley

This lovely bit of quilting

(Fixed it, it was upside down)

This glass ornament from Cairo. It's so pretty (and I'm so impressed that you shipped it Shocked)

Orenji was also very excited to show me the artwork he did in his sketchbook

Bonus pic (cause it's cool), Snickers bar in Arabic

I really enjoyed this and thanks for being a great first host Eamea Cheesy

I received from anna.wahnsinn and as promised, swap photos, now with better lighting Cheesy

The haul: Card (courtesy of kwality570, the paper is so pretty), two BOXES of tea Shocked, and a very special plushie...

It's a baby ohmu from Nausicaa of the the Valley of the Wind!

It's so cute and you have no idea how excited I was when Anna told me she was making something Nausicaa themed. It may have to come with me next time I cosplay as Nausicaa...

Now I just have to find a place to nestle him on my desk. (And don't worry thanate, your squirrel already found a home on my desk among some other animal plushies) Thanks so much Anna!

Echo and I did a museum visit as well.

We spent the weekend in Raleigh so we could go to the annual Astronomy Days at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences. Unfortunately there wasn't as much astronomy stuff to take pictures with as there has been at previous events but I got a few along with some pictures of the regular museum exhibits.

Echo got to ride on a robot.

And we saw an Echo-sized rover (When I asked the ladies who were running this exhibit table if I could pose Echo in the rover for a photo they thought it was really funny and we all couldn't stop laughing at how perfect it looks Cheesy)

The giant snapping turtle happily wasn't lurking in the back of his enclosure. I might enjoy watching people walk by that exhibit and think it's just a big fish tank and then freak when they see the turtle a bit too much Roll Eyes

They also have a tank of those Day-Glo fish that have some jellyfish DNA so they glow under a blacklight.

The top floor of the museum is entirely devoted to insects and other arthropods. They have this super cool praying mantis sculpture right when you get off the escalator onto the floor. We did look at all the various critters but no buggy photos were taken.

After the museum we went to the local Krispy Kreme. Krispy Kreme is from NC and this location makes the doughnuts on site, so you can watch them being made.

And then of course we had to get some to eat.

We got back kinda late so boyfriend and I decided pizza for dinner was in order. Our local Pizza Hut has this claw machine filled with rubber ducks. It's play until you win so it's essentially a giant ducky vending machine.

Back home with our pizza and ducky prize.

I received yesterday from thanate. I was literally packing my car to head out of town for the weekend when the mail came so I was very happy to get it rather than have to wait until Monday.

This package made me so happy!

(Yes, those frogs are golfing with cattails)

She sent me this super cute embroidered squirrel ornament. I love the colors and the pattern, and of course I love squirrels Grin

The pouch was filled with ephemera, stickers, tea, and a set of mini prayer flags

I can't wait to get back home and do some crafting with all those stamps and find a place to hang those flags. (Confession, I've been wanting a little set of flags like that for while so you have no idea how happy I was to see that tumble out of the package).

Also the frog card came with this awesome frog sticker.

Thanks thanate Cheesy
