21  Bats & Cats HALLOWEEN Bunting in Halloween Decor and Parties by redpopsicles on: October 05, 2011 06:04:35 PM
Here is a bats and black cats Halloween fabric bunting I made for my partner in the Mini 13 Days of Halloween swap:

And another view of it hanging lopsidedly in my hall:

I freehanded the letters on my sewing machine using a zigzag stitch. All the flags have the contrasting fabric on the back, and the lace ribbon is hem tape that I got on sale for 25 cents at Joann's or Hancock's or something. I have a little more of it, and I'm thinking of making another for myself.  Smiley

Anyway, C&C welcome!

22  Vintage-style Woodburned Plaque in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by redpopsicles on: October 05, 2011 05:50:33 PM
I made this vintage-style plaque for my partner in the Mini 13 Days of Halloween Swap, and she just opened the package, so I thought I'd share here.

I really didn't know what a time consuming project it would be when I started. It started as a blank raw wood plaque. I traced the design, which came from a site on my partner's wist, onto it using a graphite transfer paper. I used my handy woodburning tool to outline all the designs, then painstakingly burned all the background so the images would pop out. After that I used water-based rub-on stain to darken the unburned parts just a bit. All in all it took about 10-12 hours, which I spread out over about a month because if I used the burner too long in one sitting, it would heat up too much and the tip would fall off.

Anyway, I hope my partner enjoys it. I had a lot of fun making it. C&C welcome!

Thank you so much for all my goodies, cadet! You really made this an awesome swap!

Day 1: Samhain Day! And, to help me celebrate Samhain, a mini alter kit with a triple moon painted cigar box, some mini pumpkins and gourds, orange candles and a pentacle necklace made from nails that I will be wearing all the time!

Day 2: Movie Day! I love this necklace! It has 3 interchangable pendants based on some of my favs - Rocky Horror, Harry Potter and Dracula - and a bunch of ecclectic beads. Also, a supercute Hedwig stuffie and a black t-shirt with a skull cut out of the front.

Day 3: Anatomically Correct Day! Check out these amazing anatomical wall art pieces cadet made! I love both of them, and I'm deciding today where their new homes will be.

And, as if I wasn't already spoiled, cadet also included this awesome vintage medical book one the heart with all kinds of sweet anatomical diagrams.

Day 4: Witch Day! Witchy goodness abounds! I got got a cute decorated frame with a matching wooden ornament, a witchy rubber duckie and two pairs of the softest spa socks ever!

Day 5: Supplies Day! I have totally been needing a thread-catcher for forever, and now I have this little Halloween-themed number to help me out, along with other supplies I've been needing or can never get enough of: hair accessory blanks, embroidery thread, rolls of ribbon and some really nice mettalic and black spider web material that I must figure out how to use ASAP! (Unfortunately, I cannot find my picture of all the loot right now, but I am going to re-take a pic and get it up shortly.)

Day 6: Book Day! How much do you love this wickedly awesome Harry Potter door hanger? Because I love it more than that! I will be rocking this decoration year-round, for sure.

Cadet also included a cool blank notebook with folders and dividers that I plan to use to try to organize my life a little... Smiley

Day 7: Vampire Day! I can't wait to get all vampired out in my new blood-spattered kicks, glitter bat hairclip and blood droplet "bite me" necklace, which I will wear while I eat my gummy vampires candy!

And a close-up of the necklace:

Day 8: Candy Day! Three of my faves...Spree, Gobstoppers and Nerds!

Day 9: Pamper Day! I cannot wait to use all these great spa gifts! Delicious-smelling handmade soaps shaped like Frankenstein, Dracula, a witch and a mummy, a man-/pedi- set and a sleep mask with spooky eyes!

Day 10: Boyfriend Day! My fella seriously loved this etched glass beer mug, and I have confiscated the gummy werewolves. Wink The skeleton duckie is now residing in the bathroom.

Day 11: Zombie Day! The excellence continues with some sexy zombie handprint undies, a Frankenstein travel sewing kit and even more hair accessories from my wist (these of the zombie finger persuasion...).

Day 12: Eye Popping Accessories! Hurray for hair accessories - all of these are straight from my wist, and cadet did such an awesome job! I love them all!

Day 13: Container Day! I received this awesome tote that quotes The Raven ("Nevermore") in the shape of a raven and some Halloween stickers.

I received my package from cadet today, and here's the pile of loot I discovered when I opened it:

24  Mushroom Throw - 1st Non-Rag Quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by redpopsicles on: July 26, 2011 12:49:56 AM
This is my first finished quilt! I just made up the blocks as I looked at the fabric and built them around the mushrooms. The back (which I neglected to photograph) is brown cotton with contrasting orange quilting. I coordinated the top quilting with brown stitch in the ditch (I think it's called...) It ended up being about 36"36" and I used some $1 per yard fleece for batting.

Here's the whole shebang:

As you can see I pieced one of the blocks on sideways, but I decided to just go with it.

And a couple close-ups of the 2 versions of blocks:

25  Blue and Green Plaid Meets Neckties - 1st Rag Quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by redpopsicles on: July 26, 2011 12:14:59 AM
Here is my first ever competed quilt! I made for my dog Trey. It's pretty small, just under 30"X30" and reversible with the same pattern on back as on the front. It's a green and blue plaid woven material and a navy cotton with green, blue and grey neckties. Both fabrics have been in my stash for years. I used some fleece I picked up for $1 per yard as my batting.

Here is the finished side (with Trey on the chair below):

And the rag side:

A close-up of 4 blocks so you can see the fabric:

And an action shot of Trey relaxing under his new blanket!

I received an AMAZING package from dulcet on Friday, and I've finally got a couple pics! I have to say dulcet set the bar pretty high all the hair goodies she made.

Here is a group pic of everything:

And some close-ups of the individual pieces.

Thank you so much, Dulcet! Everything is very much my style, and I can't wait to start wearing them to work. I'll try to get some action shots to post, too.

I received an awesome double kit on wirework and maille from Myrdda yesterday!

First, a handmade instruction book (this is the inside cover):

The instructions are really clear and easy to follow! A couple pages from the maille section:

And all the loot together:

I love everything, and I can't wait to get started, although I may have to share everything with my SO because he really wants to take over the chain maille supplies now!  Thanks so much, Myrdda!
