1  The Grim! in Needlework: Completed Projects by Solitary Cricket on: December 26, 2012 02:33:17 PM
I recently made this for the Winter Semester of the HP Craftalong. I was just so happy with it that I wanted to post it here as well.
This is my first project post since I joined Craftster over a year ago. =)

I wanted to recreate what Harry sees in his teacup in the third book/movie. Reference image http://harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/File:Tea_leaves_1.jpg Obviously I took some artistic license with it but that's what makes it mine.

I used off-white felt, two colors of embroidery floss (dark gray and black) and a 4" embroidery hoop. The edge is colored with a gold paint pen. The entire thing is done in French knots which I learned for this project and had a lot of practice with too!

Hope you enjoy. Q&C welcome!

2  Re: An Unexpected Journey - The Hobbit Movie Swap Round 1- Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Solitary Cricket on: December 26, 2012 10:03:27 AM
Eiseldora was kind enough to post teaser pics of the lovely things she sent me. Here (finally) is everything unwrapped.

I think with a Hobbit swap, it is only appropriate to start with the food. Eiseldora sent me a package with 6 Hobbit inspired food mixes from tea cake (which was a big hit at my weekly D&D group) to muffins to cram. She also included fruit leather (my favorite), trail mix, pumpkin puree (for one of the mixes), and two kinds of jam.

A cookbook with all the mix instructions.

Plates, napkins and small utensils.

Dwarven Treasure and Handspun & Dyed Yarn.

Like I said before, the yarn is awesome.

Maps. I love maps.

(Sorry its turned the wrong way. I fixed it, but it in Photobucket but somewhere along the way, that info was lost.)

and lastly, posters, posters and more posters. I had to lay them out on my living room floor to get them all in one picture.

Sorry it took so long to post, but that you SO much Eiseldora. You sent an awesome package!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Divination - Tasseomancy
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Harry's Tea Cup
Project Page Link (if available): n/a
Brief Description: (how it fits the requirements, pattern/techniques/recipe used, any fun tips, etc.) This was made completely on a whim when I saw the assignments for this semester of the craftalong. I wanted to recreate what Harry sees in his tea cup in the third book/movie. I used felt, two colors of embroidery floss, and a gold paint pen. It is done completely in French knots which I learned specifically for this piece.

I hope I filled all this out right as this is my first craftalong post.

4  Re: Harry Potter Holiday ~ Beware Nargles in Your Mistletoe! in The Swap Gallery by Solitary Cricket on: December 15, 2012 07:36:53 AM
Harry Potter swaps are always the most fun.

From pottermouth:

A Hogwarts crest papercut inside an ornament. And a Lupin clothespin with the most adorable little details.

From hgddm:

Feather/quill ornaments that can also be slipped onto the end of a pen/pencil.

From Thimbles 71:

The trio and two of my favorite characters as gingerbread people. Snape's expression makes me chuckle.

The worst picture of the cutest little tree ornament.
She also sent me a couple teas and some of my favorite hot cocoa mix.

Thank you so much to all three of my wonderful partners! I hope to have the chance to craft for all of you again - you guys really made this a fantastic and rewarding swap.

So, I know this might seem late, but better late than never.

When I got flaked on, KodaNRoxyDogs stepped up to angel, and what she sent was amazing!
I've already worn most of it and gotten tons of compliments too =)

Thank you so much!! Getting flaked on sucks, but having such an awesome angel totally makes up for it. I opened the pearls bracelet first and didn't even need to see the rest of the package to be completely satisfied. Aaand, the crystal bracelet was totally on my "to make someday" list. =)

Detail of the adorable little birds!

Thank you so much! Everything is fantastic and completely my taste.

7  Re: The Walking Dead Gallery in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by Solitary Cricket on: June 30, 2012 07:14:47 AM
The boy wonder also asked me to post pics of what I sent him.
Messenger bag.

Closeup of freezer-paper stenciled logo.

Interior detail.

It was quite the challenge, but it was a good one.

Hello all!
The boy wonder was crafting for my bf for this swap. And the stuff he sent was great.
An awesome t-shirt that fits perfectly. He wore it yesterday.

A group shot of everything else. A test from the shirt (which I already have plans for) a magnet and a cool comic panel wallet.

Closeup of the wallet.

Thanks a lot! This swap was a lot of fun and the bf is very happy with his goodies. =)

9  Re: Make-a-Friend Swap Round 9 :: Summer 2012 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by Solitary Cricket on: June 24, 2012 11:35:28 AM
So I took these pictures ages ago, but never managed to post them. And that's really sad because I was SO excited when I received this package from Ariethine. (Package 1)
Here are all the goodies all spread out. Ariethine had them all very neatly stuffed into the pruple bag, but I couldnt manage to put them back nearly as nicely once I emptied everything out.

Closer to home. Career & Holiday

Craft it.

This package was amazing and I love everything in it. If I didn't know the theme of the package, I would have thought that she used my interests for everything instead of her own.

I am just about done with my second package and I can't what comes next.

Sorry this took so long to post - its been a hectic couple of weeks.

I received an awesome matchbox from isaacmom01. Everything about it is just so me.

An adorable little birdhouse with French text (I love French)

All the awesome goodies. Enough things to make earrings and other cool stuff.

My favorites. Owls, elephants, dice, buttons, keys, foreign currency - all awesome. Also I've always had a thing for little jars and I love beads.
Never before did I think I was an inchie person, but this one is so adorable that I might have to change my mind. She says its her first one and I absolutely love it.

Thank you for such an awesome and thoughtful package - I really like how you're passing on the pig tradition too. =)
