31  Re: Stuff an Envelope Swap (INTERNATIONAL) (sendouts by 30/1) GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by special_occasion on: February 08, 2012 12:51:51 AM
I received from meowari today! Here's a pic of all my little treasures:

Four beautiful pendants (tree, owl, feather and butterfly), countless stickers, lots of little wood cut outs, wire in all different colours none of which I had before, paper for crafting (sparkly, stripey, flowery), beautiful blue beads, tags of various sizes and colours, ribbon, lots of eyes (useful because I only had two before....ok, bad joke  Roll Eyes ), a badge with my initial on it, wrist reminders, two pins for my hair ready to be decorated and a section of map all the way from the USA which may not sound exciting to people who live there but I'm in Tasmania so it's interesting to me!

I've probably missed something but it was all wonderful and will get used very soon for various projects.

Thanks meowari! And thanks to my other swap partners and to everyone who signed up to make this swap so fun  Smiley

Well I received a wonderful envelope from xxmyjelloxx and here it is so you can all appreciate it too!

I have plans for the thread, feathers, envelope and card already.

She didn't know but I desperately needed more sewing needles and a place to keep them so the needle book was a great surprise.

Also I decorated a hairpin with one of the pretty buttons (and some wire and beads) for my ten year old cousin and she thinks it's fantastic!

Thank you xxmyjelloxx, such useful bits and pieces! Grin

I love seeing what everyone has been putting in their envelopes, this swap is such a great idea. Time to add to all the fantastic things already here and show you all the wonderful envelope I received from Vecrutzi!

Firstly, it was sent in a beautifully decorated envelope (no pic sorry) and once I tore that one open carefully and eagerly another envelope fell out in a shower of cut out paper snowflakes! It was like she made it snow (ok, my boyfriend pointed that out, but I noticed it too!)

Inside the envelope:

It was a mixture of "wow I'm so lucky!" and "oh no, I should have put everything I own in hers".

We agreed she'd send me some cheesy Canadian things and I sent her some cheesy Aussie things so she sent maple leaf fabric and stickers featuring a flag, maple syrup, hockey stick and many other things. Other treasures in the envelope were glitter, more stickers, buttons, pretty patterned foil, paint sample chart, sparrow rhinestones (just heaps of things, they're all in the pic so play spot the treasures) and these amazing crafted items:

which are very special indeed and this potential pendant and earring set:

which are obviously very special as well!

Thank you so much Vecrutzi, your wonderful envelope made the less fantastic first half of my day feel like it never happened!

I have received from Averia!

Her crafts were so well made and thoughtful it was unbelievable! But just so you'll believe me I have some pictures. Please excuse the background in the pictures I rushed outside a few moments ago as soon as I received them to snap them in the last light of the day.

Here's everything:

I know, I'm very lucky, she went above and beyond the call of duty/craftster  Smiley

She embroidered two tea towels but I just took photos of the embroidery because I couldn't fit each one in and show details of her stitching skills at the same time. She especially made one with an Alice in Wonderland theme for my sister and she can't know how perfect that is, but my sister has just moved into a new house and would love nothing more than a tea towel that's actually cool!

a very cleverly made organiser (picture it folded in half so both sides of little pockets are usable)

since we both like Firefly (actually Mum may also be fighting for this) she actually stitched this for me with tiny little perfect stitches

And last but not least, just look at this. She asked if I wanted anything crafted for anyone else and I said my Mum wrote a poem about the Hobart Bellrigers as part of a writing project and something to commemorate that experience would be fantastic. So look what she made:

She printed Mums poem onto fabric and the Hobart Bellringers logo and she embroidered intricate embroidery down the sides. I'm going to give this to Mum as part of her Christmas present and she is going to be so overwhelmed and hang it up in her writing room and love it always.
Oh and I'm eating the chocolates she sent right now instead of dinner and they're delicious  Grin
Sorry for the long post but I wanted everyone to share in the joy!
Thank you Averia for making this a wonderful swap!

- prepare yourself for a few pictures -

I received my swap package from Courtneykilledit and she's got crafty talent to spare.

So much to spare in fact that she's passed some on to her daughter who did this self portrait:

If she looks like that she is the cutest kid in the WORLD.

Courtney can draw too, don't think this little pic on the lovely letter she sent me escaped my attention:

She made me this trivet from recycled fabric becuase she knew that I have a soft spot for recycled crafts (it would have taken ages, I really appreciate it)

This hat made from wool and skill

and these hair clips (which could also be clipped onto the hat or a bag or a headband or about a billion other things as I've discovered)

and here's everything together because, well, why not?

As you can see I was motivated enough to use fabric for a background but not motivated enough to iron it first, but thankfully everyones eyes are distracted by courtneykilledit's clever creations!

Thank you so much for making my first swap a wonderful one!

36  buttons, beads and bobby pins in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by special_occasion on: October 19, 2011 09:33:28 PM

As part of a recent swap I embellished these two bobby pins. They were made from thrifted buttons and beads and she liked them which made it even better.
Some of her favourite colours were black and purple and pink so I worked with that.

I just can't stop making tiny things!

37  "deck the halls with..." bits of things glued and stitched! in Winter Holidays by special_occasion on: October 19, 2011 02:26:59 AM

I thought I'd try my hand at making some Christmas decorations. I'm not sure whether I'll hang them on a tree or just around the place haphazardly, what do you think?

The red and gold fabric ribbon was found at a thrift store last year and I've had no idea what to do with it, so was the gold trim down the bottom (ornate!) and the wine charms and earrings I used to decorate the centers were found over a few months over a few thrift stores with a bit of luck.

A couple of thrift items, some glue, a needle and thread and some nights of casual crafting and here they are!

I'm really pleased with how they've turned out.

38  Re: Newbie Swap Round 17 (Sign-ups CLOSED!; Send by 09/30/11) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by special_occasion on: September 13, 2011 02:39:37 AM

Yep, ambiguous teaser.

I was going for ambiguous, but not THAT ambiguous. I snapped a few close up photos of sections of the medium craft, went to put them on the computer and after one pic landed the other two decided they'd participate in developing some kind of camera/computer compatibility issue so that's all I have for the moment.

Now to go show my software who's boss....or just get my boyfriend to fix everything...  Roll Eyes

39  put a garden in your hair in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by special_occasion on: August 25, 2011 03:27:58 AM

I used some red and green ribbon to make a little flower to attach to the end of a bobby pin to make it more interesting.

I have no idea exactly how I made the shape, I just sat there with a needle and thread doing tiny stitches in different directions trying to make it look floral so if I wanted to do it again there are two things I would change 1) write or draw instructions for myself and 2) use a more burgundy and less bright red ribbon (it may be tiny but in the sun it's so brightly noticeable it's less like I'm wearing the flower and more like the flower is wearing me).

So lessons learned and pretty flower bobby pin made!

40  beautifying with buttons in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by special_occasion on: August 20, 2011 06:40:44 AM
Well it's my 27th birthday today and since I was lucky enough to receive a camera as a gift (mostly because I have been desperate to post here) I can finally post photos of what I have been crafting!

I found a lime green hair clip at the op shop, painted it with a golden nail polish and used super glue to stick on three buttons because they were too pretty to be stuck sitting in a button jar.

I always enjoy seeing what everyone else does here to make things to love out of previously loved and abandoned pieces and now I can post my own!

(a couple of days later...)

I made another one, I'm a little addicted

but that's it, I promise, I'll make more but I won't post them, I think we've all got the idea by now Smiley
