Class: Arithmancy
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Sneaky Heart
Brief Description: I looked at this to get an idea for the layout: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:FibonacciBlocks.svg
A little wall quilt with a tiny tiny tiny Slytherin pride heart embroidered with ribbon and encrusted with beads. So that's what happened this Saturday: from waking till flaking.

Since I started so late I'm just going to have to face that I probably won't be able to do the challenges and just concentrate on passing my classes! Next semester I will join straight away so I don't rush and my crafts don't suffer like this:

Yep. It was going to be my charms assignment. The mirror was supposed to be like seeing your reflection in a pond at night, so I covered the wooden frame with clay and embedded shards of mother of pearl and fake pearls and painted it and surrounded it with beads which were supposed to be the stones around the pond. I fell in love with it while I made it. Hastily. And then it cracked. Everywhere. It makes me too sad so I've put it away to deal with another day. I'm looking forward to coming up with something else for class though. Just shared this in case anyone else had a crafting disaster, I know how you feel  Cry

Class: Astronomy
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Sewing in the Sunshine
Brief Description: Decorated a plain cardboard gift box and decorated sewing bits and pieces.

Class: Transfiguration
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Good Luck Charm
Brief Description: My Mums partner got a new car recently and they love going on recreational drives together. His birthday is coming up,so I made him this charm as part of his present so that every trip they take together will bring them closer together: there are little metal heart charms dangling from it which are hard to see in the picture but I swear they're there.

Class: Care Of Magical Creatures
House: Slytherin
Project Name: A Really Massive Tiny Responsibility
Brief Description: Please excuse the onslaught of pictures (only assignment I've done which requires it) but I thought my classmates and instructors would appreciate them and I might not be believed otherwise. An owl I didn't recognise arrived at my window carrying a tiny package. I opened it (the package, not the owl) and, well, it seems I've been chosen to raise a little dragon  Shocked Wish us luck  Wink (Matchstick for size reference: I don't know how I made it, I just sat there and tried till it was done so sorry I can't share a tutorial, also think I'll repaint the egg a little more intricately)

House: Slytherin
Project Name: House Pride Necklace/Earring Set
Brief Description: Realising a little too late that I could not find a silver bead anywhere in the house (but we all know they're irretrievably dug into the carpet somewhere) I figured that the Slytherin pride would still slither from this fake green pearl and black bead jewellery set.

Class: Divination
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Ladybird Ladybird Fly Away Home...No, Wait, Come Back!
Brief Description: Lady birds are a good omen and being in Slytherin I make my own luck: why have one lucky item of clothing when you can make a series of good omen lavender sachets for your wardrobe so everything you wear can be lucky? Wink Please forgive the late night photography!

Class: Potions
House: Slytherin
Project Name: The Price Of Magic
Brief Description: With all the forgetfulness potions floating around Hogwarts, it's only sensible to create something that will help me remember in case I should ever drink one inadvertently. This reminds me that anything is only as special, meaningful and exciting as you let it be. I remember seeing a bracelet in an op shop (thrift store) when I was a little girl and I thought it was the most magical thing I'd ever seen and that it must have belonged to a princess. Mum bought it for me even though I wasn't raised to expect presents all the time outside of Birthdays and Christmas. It was only 50 cents, but I was amazed I could have something so beautiful and thought it must have been worth millions more. It broke a long time ago but I made this today to remind me that we have the power to decide what is magical and special and that has nothing to do with money.

17  The Birthday Bark Tree in Completed Projects by special_occasion on: July 15, 2012 05:26:02 PM
My favourite kind of presents to give are handmade presents because then (selfishly) at least it's fun for me to make as opposed to buying something which is no fun for me. I've never thought of something handmade to give my boyfriend before, I really wanted it to be something he liked and not just something you keep because you have to because your girlfriend made it.

This birthday I did it!

Made chocolate bark. Called it birthday bark. Put it in a jar featuring a tree which is the birthday bark tree and can be harvested from once a year (that is, each birthday the jar will be refilled  Wink )

I glued crinkled tissue paper to the jar, drew a tree on a plain white sticker sheet then cut that out and stuck it on, the rest is a combination of black acrylic paint and a silver paint pen and sealant all working together to give the whole thing a bit of texture and dimension (I hope!).

Really satisfying project and very well received  Smiley

18  The Card That Kept Spawning in Mother's Day by special_occasion on: July 09, 2012 10:23:39 PM

I made this card for a pen friend who was recovering from an operation, but as soon as I made it I realised Mum would be getting an almost identical one next Mothers Day because when I showed it to her she thought it was lovely.

I had an existing card then stitched lots of gold toned beads and white/pearly buttons to some blue felt and then glued the felt to the card. It wasn't very complicated or giant but I was surprised how long it took to make! Lots of fun though.

Hmmn, if I made Mum a different colour scheme button/bead card each Mothers Day, she could frame them together eventually for a kind of button patchwork effect wall display Smiley

19  Skirt With Tutorial in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by special_occasion on: June 30, 2012 08:05:57 PM

Hi everyone  Smiley

I made this skirt for a recent swap. I stitch by hand because it's relaxing and I feel more involved than when I use a machine. I had no plan while I was making it but I made a tutorial afterward in case anyone feels like making something along similar lines. The tutorial is more of a rough guide, no measurements, just laid out how I like to understand things. If you're less crazy than me and it isn't laid out how you understand things, please ask and I'll try to answer.

This is the skirt:

and this is the... um... "tutorial"  Roll Eyes

Enjoy and good luck  Wink

20  Re: Vintage swap Sign ups May 2 to May 30 Send outs June 30th in The Swap Gallery by special_occasion on: June 21, 2012 02:19:39 AM
Adding to the already beautiful gallery: I've received from Proxima!

The whole thing was wrapped in beautiful wrapping paper, but I was just too eager to see the things inside, I forgot to take a photo.

Here we have an excellent array of paper goods: some for crafting with myself, some which she crafted for me, a very nice balance!

Then there was a bracelet she crafted for me and a headband she crafted for me which features a brooch which can be taken off and worn separately if I want AND extra beads n' bits in case it ever needs repairing! Now that is thorough! There's also plenty of bits and peices for me to craft into things for myself!

Now you've noticed that silky fabric everything has been photographed on, so here it is:

A cushion cover with a hand painted center which must have taken forever to do because it's so precise and involved!

Also Czech Republic cultural extras which are not pictured but are very much appreciated  Smiley

Thank you Proxima for putting so much effort and thought into this swap!
