11  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Farm Country Square Dance on: October 10, 2011 01:33:39 PM
One of my friends recently found these partially finished applique squares at a yard sale.  I would say that they were approximately 80% completed.  She brought the project to me so that I could finish the squares and she plans to sew the quilt together herself.

I had to create the hat/hair pattern for the Ladies & Gents from scratch.  The faces had been penciled in, so I was able to embroidery them & complete any unfinished applique work.  I also added the grape detail.

I am excited to see how the quilt will look once it is finished.  I enjoyed bringing these characters to life!

12  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects / Patio Chair Cushion Covers on: August 25, 2011 03:12:14 PM
My sister-in-law wanted to do something with her weathered patio chair cushions.  After shopping around she discovered that the chair cushions were not standard size and to special order them they would cost her first born child.
Take 8 yards of Home Decor Fabric which  cost approximately $100.00 (on sale) add another sister-in-law (me) who loves to make old things look new again (priceless) and you have yourself a new look that fits perfectly with your outdoor living space!
I want something that slips on, no ties, simple yet elegant more Martha Stewart than Better Homes & Gardens.

13  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Give Peace A Chance on: August 08, 2011 06:25:14 PM
These plaster letters have been sitting in a drawer for years just waiting for the right project to come along.  When I saw the Craft Challenge #65 Text-tacular! I knew it was time to open that drawer, dust them off and GIVE them new life. (I didn't enter this project into the challenge, I decided to go with a poem written by my daughter, "If I Were In Charge Of The World".

My Inspiration for this project:
"Give Peace a Chance"
a song written by John Lennon

My Inspiration:
"If I Could Be In Charge Of The World"
a poem written by my daughter, Ashley

Recently I was going through my kid's school papers and childhood keepsakes.  I was sorting, organizing, and eventually I got around to putting them away in the cedar chest.

I spent most of the day laughing, and crying a little at the fond memories.  Currently my son is 26 and my daughter is 23 and they both live 12 hours away from us.  I came across the poem my daughter had written when she was about 15, and I found myself reading it over and over because even though she wrote it 8 years ago, it describes the core of her fun loving spirit; a sweet happy-go-lucky girl.  Funny thing is, now she is a vegetarian who likes to read self help books and who really loves her brother more than anything in the world!
The featured FONT is: Visit Indonesia 2011, which I downloaded free from http://www.dafont.com/visit-indonesia-2011-2.font  I also used chipboard font cutouts found at the local craft store.

if i were in charge of the world
id cancel vegetables,
getting in trouble,
and awful animals.

if i were in charge of the world
thered be bigger hoses,
bigger sodas,
and longer recess.

if i were in charge of the world
you wouldnt have homework,
wading pools,brothers,
or have to pay bills.

if i were in charge of the world
all schools would have candy pencils,
all kids can mute their parents,
all books are what you like.

and a person who couldnt read,
and sometimes forgot to feed the dog,
would still be allowed to be in charge of the world!

I was so glad to have an extra canvas on hand.
I just wasn't sure how the colors, tissue, and scrap paper were going to look.
I made several adjustments along the way.

18  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 64 ENTRIES / Pinochle Trump Marker on: July 10, 2011 02:48:29 PM
Pinochle is a big deal in our family.  We get together and play every Saturday night.  We take turns hosting the event and always take time out for homemade desserts; it is always a special treat when Great Aunt Mary makes her homemade ice cream!
So when I read about your mixed media challenge the first thing I thought of was our Trump Card Markers to keep track of which suit is trump.  It has become a necessary item for those of us with a touch of "old timers' disease."
I have been looking for some creative ways to jazz them up.
Thanks Craftster for inspiring me! ~Wendy
