1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: I need advice: should I buy this wheel? on: April 28, 2007 09:35:43 PM
I doubt you need any more convincing, but I'll chime in and agree with all those saying, "Do it!"

Have fun with your fabulous new wheel!

That is REALLY interesting.  I've never seen anything like it.  Keep us updated!

Ashford Traditional

Affordable. Relatively easy to find for a good price.  Plenty of used ones on the market. Great to learn on because you get the chance to learn how to adjust an often finicky wheel.  Looks beautiful in the living room.  Attention getting if you plan on spinning in a crowd of non-spinners.

Tiny bobbins.  Very frequent adjusting and oiling need.  Relatively large.  Would not be ideal for a small space.  Exceedingly difficult to transport.  (I do sometimes throw her in the backseat, but I have an anxiety attack with every bump and pothole.)

I would whole-heartedly recommend this wheel to adventurous beginners.  She certainly isn't one of those magic problem-free, adjustment-free wheels, but it is a good, solid, beautiful machine.

I bought my AT from an estate sale for $200.00.  I probably paid a bit too much considering I had to replace a number of parts before she was up and running.

Absolutely gorgeous.  You should be very proud.

I love it when something looks modern and timeless at the same time!
5  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Happy Little Christmas Swap Gallery! on: December 19, 2006 08:05:35 PM
Bloo, I got the penguin garland at Hobby Lobby, oddly enough.  I was trying to amuse my nephew and we went on a "penguin hunt" to keep him busy and he spotted it.  (Yes, I employed child labor in acquiring Penguino's presents.)

p.s. Sorry to respond to a post from two pages ago.  I'm buried in Christmas Craziness.

p.p.s. So glad you liked everything, Penguino!
6  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Re: Eunny Jang's End Paper mitts on: December 04, 2006 12:49:02 PM
I'm making these as well.

I'm using KnitPicks Palette in a dark brown and a camel color.  Very neutral, but pretty so far.

I'm almost finished with the first one.

That is going to be lovely, superstitch.  I can't wait to see your swatch!

Checking in.  Alive and crafting.

Ashford Traditional here as well.  And ditto about the bobbins.  Love the wheel, hate the bobbins.  Also hate how she fits so precariously in the backseat of my car.
