What an incredible and thoughtful idea... the boys must have wonderful teachers to deserve the beautiful and heartfelt pillows.  Your boys did great work - tell them the craftster readers are impressed!

Most of the patches were made using wonder under-- it felt like cheating because it is so easy to cut out the exact shape you want.  Then the fabric that was cut and ironed in place was securely attached using the zig zag stitch which is supposed to make it sturdy enough to hold up in use and wash. (I'm so embarrassed- i don't really know quilting or sewing terminology.  I'm just kind of winging it and could really benefit from a sewing class or two!).  The Harold and the purple crayon patch was fabric painted.  The Give a mouse a cookie, and Corduroy patches were wonder-undered and attached securely with the button hole stitch.  Here are some up close pictures of the patches before they were quilted.

Hmmm.. I don't know if that shows much more detail than the last photo... i'll include it for the heck of it.
I am so grateful to all of you for the feedback!  Craftster is so inspiring!

This is so wonderful!  Is the whole front made with t-shirts?  What is the backing?  I love the finished look!  A mix between classic quilting style and new wave style.
