1  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects / Air Dry Clay Western Diamondback Rattlesnake {Image heavy} on: May 24, 2011 12:50:42 PM
Okay, here goes my first completed craft post!
I know someone who is really afraid of snakes and I couldn't help but capitalize on that fact.  I used about 10 pounds of air dry clay from Hobby Lobby.  I had tried this once before with a different type of clay but had used a coat hanger as a spine and as the clay dried it shrunk and cracked because of the aperture so lesson learned the hard way.  This snake has no spine; I just had to make sure I braced the head with a soda bottle while it was drying.  As for the scales I initially tried using a bent paper clip but that wasn't going so well so I went down to a local bargain store and got a cheap dental pick and used pliers to bend it into the shape I needed.  That worked better but it still took forever and was frustrating.  I used acrylic paint and covered it in a coat of mod podge. I got cat eyes from hobby lobby which i put in early in the building process.  Anyway, here are some pics. I hope ya'll like it.

For grass you could glue some Easter grass onto poster board and then tape or sticky tack it to the wall!

Those are some good ideas.  I like the lamp and stuff.  My only problem is I'm such a sentimental softy I can't quite bring myself to use them because there's that one chance that I may want to listen to them someday.

So you trace it with a burner onto the fabric?

hog - squeeeee I love your avatar.

Birdbones - That could work. Maybe even making a frame out of a metal coat hanger or something and attach it to the regular tp holder and mount the monster over that.  Hmm...

I was cleaning out my closet today and found a bunch of old audio cassette tapes.  Don't really want to throw them away but at the same time I have no clue what to do with them.  For now they are sitting in a cardboard box back in the closet.  Any ideas?

That's really cool. I would definitly like to try to make one but I'll have to give it some extra thought since we live in a duplex and can't drill holes in the wall.

That is an absolutely beautiful wreath and a great idea.  My Nanny is still alive thank God and she does have a few jars of buttons.
