Aww, Ovechtrick's blanket is lovely!

Yesterday we went to my sister-in-laws birthday party. She lives in a small city called Hartlepool, which is famously known as the city of monkey hangers because (I'll let Wiki do the talking), "During the Napoleonic wars, a French ship of the type chasse mare was wrecked off the coast of Hartlepool. The only survivor was a monkey, wearing a French uniform (allegedly)-(presumably to provide amusement for those on board the ship). On finding the monkey, some locals decided to hold an impromptu trial on the beach; since the monkey was unable to answer their questions, and many locals were unaware of what a Frenchman may look like, they concluded that the monkey was in fact a French spy. Just to make sure, the animal was thus sentenced to death and hanged from the mast of a fishing boat on the Headland."

And with the first mayor of West Harltepool, William Gray.

And finally, Ricki kindly helped me finish packing for our trip to the US.

^ I love that last shot! It's very arty Cheesy

It is surprisingly sunny and nice here today! We have a lot of packing to do for our trip to the US but we keep managing to slip out to the back garden every 30 minutes or so for a drink and some sunshine!

Aww Tesla must have been in her element getting to play with the chemistry set. How cool of your mom to bring the stuff home!

Ricki and I have been so busy lately that we haven't had time to go anywhere nice. We leave for the US next week though and then we're on holiday for 3.5 weeks so hopefully we'll get to do lots of fun stuff.

It has been typically rainy and horrible here lately and today was no exception but at least we got a rainbow out of it!

Ricki came with me to my sewing class and we finished the bag she designed last week

Then we walked home after sewing class and took a different route by a nice old church in the neighbourhood.

I am so jelaous of Tesla! She looks like she's having an amazing time and those berries look lush! And an interesting fact is that the lead singer of AC/DC, Brian Johnson, is actually from my city so there was a bit of a hometown connection for Tesla  Cheesy

Today Ricki and I went down to the river front and watched some crazy people zip line off the Tyne Bridge to raise money for charity.

So Ricki wanted a picture of her with the bridge

We were watching the people zip down from bridge from a prime location on the other side of the river; in front of The Sage, which is a big, very cool looking music venue on the river front. I tried to take Ricki's picture in front of it as well but a big gust of wind came and knocked her down right as I snapped the pic. She was not impressed.

and finally...Our something blue picture!

We have plans to go out and get the something blue pic tomorrow. Today is very cold and rainy so we're staying inside and knitting and Ricki offered to model the headband I made for my niece who is due in a few weeks.

I love the fact that Bogart might be silently sat in the background of some of the interviews that air  Cheesy

We had a typical boring day at work, but when we were waiting for the bus to go home Ricki spotted the castle behind the bus stop and asked to have a look around.

When we got to sewing class she insisted on designing a new bag to be carried around in as my old, tatty backpack is apparently not up to her standards.  Roll Eyes

Ricki and I had a busy day today! As promised, she got to go somewhere very cool.

My friend's boyfriend was hosting a meeting at St. James Park, which is the stadium where Newcastle United Football Club play (they are a team in the English Premier League). He managed to get Ricki in for a private tour because that's just how she rolls.

Picking up the local slang

As you can see, the weather was that of a typical English summer day  Roll Eyes

She also came with me to sewing class tonight and reminded me that we'll be travelling to the USA soon so we made a neck pillow out of vintage curtains for the plane ride.

^^Aww what a cute suitcase  Cheesy

I just got in from work and Ricki was here waiting for me!  Grin

She brought a biogoraphy to tell me all about herself, a passport, some yummy chocolate and some tea (I can't read what kind but I presume it's a nice fruity one because it smells sweet). Yay! Thanks Anofeles, I'm going to have a nice hot cuppa and chocolate before bed tonight!

And because she got here today, she gets to go somewhere very cool tomorrow!! I can't wait!!  Wink

39  Travel Accessories in Completed Projects by HolaKitty on: June 11, 2011 06:22:32 AM
I travel a lot. I'm American but live in England so I'm always crossing the Atlantic. I'm also currently trying to learn to sew and I was amazed by this Travel Wallet by heartofmary. I always lose my boarding passes and have to dump out my bag in a mad rush before boarding so I really wanted one.

I'm going to the US in 3 weeks so I thought I'd make up a travel document wallet and a sleeping mask for the journey. I don't own a sewing machine. My only time to sew is during my 2.5 hour sewing class every Thursday so these were rushed and not as neat as I would have liked but since they're just for me and not a gift or anything, I'm happy enough with them. I didn't have any patterns, just sketched out what I wanted them to look like and then trial and error with fabric cutting!  Cheesy

Because I was in a rush, I forgot to attach my closure strap with velcro for the wallet ( Roll Eyes) so I'm going to just try to hot glue it on when I get a chance.

Also, can anyone explain to a newbie how to get bias tape around corners? Everything I tried looked horrible so in the end I gave up and just cut it in pieces to sew on the individual sides.

Please let me know if you haven't been added to the swap yet and you have send me your info. I just realized that I had missed one person's PM... Embarrassed

Wait I thought sign up is open till Monday? I've been waiting to send the pm till tomorrow since that is my one month date.

Edit: Okay I've sent the PM early - I don't want to be left out!

This is my LV, Ms Tesla DuBare...She's super jazzed at the thought of getting out of cold, grey England!
