11  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Yellow & Grey Cushions on: March 29, 2010 05:57:56 PM

I have been obsessed with yellow & grey color palettes for awhile now. After we got a gold sofa off Craigslist ($150!), I knew that some yellow & grey pillows would help pull it all together. We now have two putty-colored leather chairs, a grey rug and a gold couch, but somehow it all works!

The square one is just one big granny square. The rectangle one is a standard hexagon pattern. Yarns are from Joanne's, mostly Lionbrand Wool-ease with a bit of the new Stitch 'n' Bitch Nation yarns from Red Heart.

So after I made those... I bought another pillow form at Ikea for super cheap ($6, and it's big!), so I've started on another one. It will be small grannys all pulled together with a light grey. Wish me luck, I'm almost done!

12  CLOTHING / Sewing Pattern Reviews / Butterick B6582 - Joan Holloway would approve! on: March 24, 2010 07:01:22 PM

Butterick B6582.... oh, how I have waited for you! I bought this pattern about five years ago. I thought it would be perfect made up in white stretch satin. I bought the satin about three years ago... and it sat on my sewing table. And sat... until I cut it out last summer, and finally put it together last week. Whew. Only took five years for it to come together.

Overall, I think it turned out great. Not that I'm sure white stretch satin was the best choice... but the pattern is solid. The only part I disliked was the "cross over" neckline. Not much of a cross. More like a two-part-sewn-down neckline. The pattern was not too difficult, maybe an intermediate level? I would certainly recommend it. I love the late 50's, early 60's feel.

13  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Love! Suggestions Needed! on: February 14, 2010 10:33:04 AM

Happy Valentine's Day, friends!

I stitched this up, intending to frame it in a wooden hoop and hang it up... but it didn't fit! I was thinking maybe a pillow... but I am still unsure. Anyone else have any suggestions as to what I should do with it?
14  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / A Little Wedding Present! on: February 10, 2010 05:33:30 PM
My college roommate, Erik, got married on January 2nd. Although I like wedding registries and I think they are very helpful, it didn't feel right for me to gift Erik something that did not come from me.

I knew I wanted to make them a sampler, something they could hang in their home that would include their names and the date of the wedding. But what remained was the design. If there's one thing I know about Erik, it's that he has great hair. Tiffany, too, so it just sort of worked itself out. I drew the design out on paper, and then transferred it onto the fabric using ye olde window method. I filled in the large areas with colored pencil and embroidered the rest! The frame is a thrift store frame, re-used. Ah! The quote! That was part of a quote they used on their wedding invites, so I thought it was fitting.

All around, it turned out to be a great wedding gift that I hope they'll keep around for awhile.

16  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Chicago Cardi !!! NOW WITH CHART !!! on: May 08, 2007 11:03:49 AM
I completed this awhile ago:

It's the perfect Chicago spring sweater: warm, but with short sleeves. The weather changes so quickly here, you never know what you'll need. Not to mention the wind.

-Lion Brand Wool-Ease
-My pattern (top-down raglan with cutesy fair-isle that I just graphed out)
-Size 9 needles

Ok, friends, sorry this took so long. Here is the fair isle chart that some requested. Put it to good use!

18  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Static Hair on: December 18, 2004 09:40:10 AM
Now that it's winter, my hair just won't behave. It is crazy with static and will stick out at strange angles.

Do any crafty solutions come to mind?
19  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / More necktie project fun! on: December 09, 2004 07:05:21 AM
I know a few people were asking for more ideas for necktie projects. I was inspired to make this cuff after seeing a similar one in a store. Urban Outfitters, maybe?
