11  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / an extra special horse on: June 09, 2010 06:19:36 PM
Hi friends!

This one was just a quick little thing. I've had this tote for awhile, and I wanted to make it just a little more special...

I used backstitch to give one special horse a pink mane, tail and hooves!

Thanks for the lovely feedback, everyone! I love the idea of reverse applique.

I love your Lil Red Tree! You have inspired me! I have been wanting to give embroidery a try. Any book suggestions?

To get you started, I would recommend Jenny Hart's "Stitch It Kit." It's super cute and comes with everything you need - thread, a towel, a hoop, a needle, patterns and instructions.

Other than that I love the books "Doodle Stitching" by Aimee Ray and "The New Crewel" by Katherine Shaughnessy. Good luck, you can doooo it!

Here's a little red tree I stitched up last week. It's only 3" across, and my own pattern. Not sure what I shall do with it yet, as always!

Love the matching color of the frame and the thread! Great work!
15  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Vintage Sheet Quilt on: May 22, 2010 12:30:52 PM
I've been sewing with vintage sheets, too! Although, I never thought of doing an entire bed's worth of a quilt. My bedroom is brown, orange and green, and I bet I could find a lot of vintage sheets in those colors! Great idea!

Oh, wow. That ironing board was... a true timepiece! This is a project that has been on my list for awhile now. You did a great job, the new cover is lovely!

This is totally adorable!

Pirate green = scurvy? Or is that Pirate Yellow?

These are awesome!

I found a frame almost exactly that shape at a thrift store! So it's one of those "Just keep looking..." things. Have you thought about stretching it on an oval embroidery hoop? You can find those online or in a craft store, probably cheaper than a frame.

Oooo, nice! What stitch is that?

I am a big fan of Dark cloth/ light embroidery.

It's a simple back stitch. And I agree, I love using dark cloth!

What a fun coincidence!
I'm working on fabric buntings myself.
Sewing the triangles together inside out, turning them and then topstitching (I know, the hard way, but I'm a perfectionist).
I love the way yours turned out. Great job!
BeaG

Yup! I didn't do the top stitching, though. Considering adding some by hand with a nice pearle cotton. We'll see how I feel!
I've been making some too, I love it. I overlock the edges of my triangles and then stitch bias tape along the top, the overlock gives the triangles a nice boarder, but it is the lazy way  Grin

I was thinking about just overlocking them! I even have a rolled hem option on my serger. Maybe the next batch!

Thanks, everyone! Those of you who have made their own - I'd love to see them!
