1  updo I saw in Real Simple in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by ambam on: November 01, 2007 11:11:01 AM
I'm not good with hair, but I thought this turned out kind of cute. I saw the directions in November's Real Simple. You make two ponytails, one with the top half of your hair, other with the bottom half. Then you twist the top pony and wrap it around and pin to the bottom elastic. You do the same with the bottom pony and pin it to the top elastic. I had to use more than just those two pins, of course.
The idea is that it looks like a big bun. I like it! I just hope it stays put for a while.

I also realized that you could make small braids in the two ponies and then wrap the braids around just like you would wrap the hair.

2  Yummy Abs Diet-type food in Recipes and Cooking Tips by ambam on: October 21, 2007 09:11:34 PM
I started reading the Abs Diet and was motivated to eat healthy for a few days....ha ha ha

This first one is a salad I have at least once a week. I am NOT a salad person, but I love this one.

I use greens, a 30-cent can of mandarin oranges from Aldi, fresh strawberries, walnuts, gorgonzola cheese crumbles and breaded chicken strips that I make. Oh, and a dressing that I make and have on hand.

I take a frozen chicken breast out of the freezer the night before and put it on a plate in the fridge. I preheat the oven to 400 or so and melt about a Tbsp of butter in the microwave. I use seasoned breadcrumbs from Aldi, also very cheap, and pour a little into a bowl. I cut the chicken breast into strips and dip into the butter, then roll in the breadcrumbs. I spray a pan and cook the chicken for about 20 minutes or so.

The dressing is just equal parts sugar, apple cider vinegar and vegetable oil.

This next one is supposed to be a fun snack. I thought little fruit shish-kabobs would be more fun to eat than just eating a piece of boring fruit.

3  Instead of flowers.... in Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage by ambam on: October 11, 2007 09:14:51 PM

I guess I'm one of those weird girls who doesn't like to get flowers. I'd much prefer something that I can't kill in a day.
To congratulate her and her boyfriend on their engagement, I sent my friend a box of bright blue Jones soda in glass bottles. It looked so cute and industrial; I set the bottles on top of white crimped paper shreds.
I'm sorry, I don't have a picture, because I was in a hurry to send it off.
I guess my point is that you don't always have to send flowers, you can send other things, too. Smiley

4  Loteria notecards in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by ambam on: September 25, 2007 11:48:42 AM

I was inspired by some Loteria crafts on etsy.com. I ordered the pack of loteria cards from someone on etsy for about $2, and this is the first project I've tried with them. I love loteria!!

Love those Web sites!! I could really get into trouble there ...

Well, I have been taking into account everyone's suggestions, but I just haven't had time to specifically go out and get any of the items suggested, except, I did pick up a few loteria candles at the grocery store. Also, I bought some fake chile peppers last night but didn't know what to do with them -- tried sitting them on top of the stove, but they were a little unstable. It would be really nice to do something to the cupboards or handles, but I don't want to mess with them since it's an apartment...even if it is ghetto already...

What I have done is order lots of loteria magnets from etsy, as well as the cutest little crochet potholders (see pic). And for some reason, I also decided to hang two placemats on the wall above the sink, and I picked up that cross for $4 at Hobby Lobby for the middle. Hmm....

Looking forward to researching all your other suggestions. Keep 'em coming!

Yes, there is grease running down the wall in this one below (I did not do it).

8  weirdest card I ever made in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by ambam on: November 27, 2006 09:39:42 PM
Made this birthday card-type thing for my mom. It was completely last-minute. Poor Mom. I went with a salsa theme because my gift was  a salsa lesson for her and my dad.

Does anyone have a good idea for writing personal messages on cards you've made? I hate to mess up the actual card. For this one, I typed out my message and printed it out with a picture of my mom and dad dancing, then folded it up like a fan and used an ugly piece of fiber to attach the note to the card.

9  magnetic make-up board in Bath and Beauty: Completed Projects by ambam on: November 06, 2006 12:29:13 AM

As soon as lovebydesign and kissjacksparrow mentioned this, I knew I had to do it because I'm always hunting in my dark, dingy make-up bag for each individual cosmetic. I already had this magnetic board by Ikea, but I was using it as a bulletin board for papers, really just making everything look messier. I'm going to hang it up in the bathroom tomorrow (too late to hammer). Not everything would stay up there. Either the board isn't magnetic enough, or my magnets were weak. I'm afraid of what's going to happen when I try to put it all back in my make-up bag.

10  My take on cloth envelope card in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by ambam on: November 05, 2006 11:08:28 PM
I took cheeseandmonkeys' cloth envelope idea to make a baby card (I'm not sure how to link to her post, but it was just a couple days ago.). By the way, the flowers are yellow with a little bit of green, but you can't tell in the picture Sad.
