I LOVE it!! Would you consider writing out a pattern or tute? I'm way new (read: never actually done it) to colorwork, but would love to attempt your hat. The design is really lovely, and your color choices are perfect. Great work!

Oooh - the orange one looks so soft - Like alpaca. Love that stitch pattern, too. I can't wait to start some more intricate cable patterns as soon as I finish my WIP
6  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: What I finished this week! on: October 24, 2007 09:35:26 AM
Thanks guys!
All I did for the scarf was cast on 12 and do a 3 stitch seed stitch border (K1, P1, K1 on WS and RS) with a 6 stitch cable (after border and on a RS row, slip next 3 stitches to cable needle (or double point needle, or pencil, or if you're really desperate, just let them hang there), K the next 3 st on left needle, then K the stitches from the stitch holder in the same order that you slipped them) in the middle. I twisted the cable every 7 rows (on a RS row). It was muy simple, and tres fast. That magnum yarn is the bomb!

Here's a better pic of the BR hat from metaphysical muse's fabulous pattern:

Thanks for Looking!

ETA: I realized that what I wrote in the post later on was a little difficult to follow, since I don't really use patterns, so here's a nice shiny pattern for you for the Big Fat Cable Scarf...

Cascade Magnum - 1 skein
Size 35 Needles
Gauge is around 2st. per inch, not that it matters.

CO 12 St using knitted cast on (make a slip knot, knit this stitch onto the right  needle, then pass it back to the left needle. Knit into the space between those two stitches, then pass that stitch back onto the left needle etc. until you have 12)

Row 1: K1, P1, K1, K6, K1, P1, K1
Row 2: K1, P1, K1, P6, K1, P1, K1
Row 3, 5: Rep. row 1
Row 4, 6: Rep. row 2
Row 7: K1, P1, K1, Slip next 3 purlwise onto dpn or cable needle and move to front of work, K3, K3 from cable needle in the same order that they were slipped, K1, P1, K1
Row 8: Rep. row 2

Repeat these 8 rows until you're finished with the skein, ending on a row 6, then BO all stitches.

Hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions, since this is the first pattern I've ever written out.

That is SUCH a great fall color - I'm so drawn to golds and oranges but, alas, they look terrible on me. The hat is super cute, and looks perfect on you!
