1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / how to make a kid's 6X shirt into an adult size? on: August 21, 2008 07:22:00 PM
I saw a kid's shirt that was simply too cute, so I had to have it... The biggest size was 6X though and I was hoping my kid brother would fit it, but his tummy sticks out a bit. So now it's mine, and I'm trying to think of ideas on how to make it bigger and longer without ruining it. please help!  Smiley
2  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / What are these? hook and eye and... on: June 04, 2008 11:03:24 PM
I have a little box of these, and I was wondering what they are and what they're used for.  I know what the hook and eye closures are, but what's the little line with loops on the ends?  I figured you craftsters would know Smiley

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / how does felt wash? on: October 26, 2007 02:40:52 AM
i was planning on sewing on patches using felt onto a hoodie of mine, but then i realized that they might shrink or disintegrate in the wash... i would wash it like any other hoodie in the washing machine. has anyone had any experience with machine washing felt or how that would turn out?

thankss Smiley
4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / how to make a tube top/dress? on: August 21, 2006 07:00:01 PM
hey, i have this wonderful fabric that i really want to make a tube dress out of, but its not stretchy so i dont know how to do the top. does anyone know how to make the sort of tube top with the two lines down the front?
sort of like this:

a pattern or description or anything would be great!

thank you!<3
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / dresses and fat pants! on: July 20, 2006 09:38:50 AM

white strapless dress with ribbon Smiley
(i got the material for free and the ribbon for $1! woot)

super funky dress/halter/skirt! it can be worn together or seperate!
($4 clearance fabric ;P)

and of course, the fat pants. Tongue made out of REALLY strechy denim and a waistband of sweatpant material. SUPER comfy but not too pretty =\
the crotch is messed up, it was my first attempt at a crotch. also i made it out of scraps from a denim skirt so i had limited material. tips on crotch-making?

this was just a test run so please please help out in making it look better!

i posted these up on another forum thread that was about fashion.
every comment was either "ew that looks really cheap" or "wow that does not flatter your stomach flab."
probably the world's way of telling me that i should not hang out on forums full of perfect and underweight girls Sad
what a blow to my self esteem!

hopefully craftster-ers will have more helpful comments than "OMG EW BURN THAT THING AND THEN LOSE 20 POUNDS"
not to say that constructive criticism is not welcome.

i have yet to discover why my sewing machine hates me so much!!!

thanks  Grin <3
6  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / grommet alternative and sewing through satin? on: July 16, 2006 04:51:48 PM
I got this new fabric that i'm trying to use to make a skirt, but for some reason my sewing machine wont sew through it! its like a satiny sort of fabric, i was just wondering if theres a special technique that you're supposed to use. i've never worked with this sort of material before, i guess i'm a newbie Embarrassed hehe

also, i have some designs with ribbon lace-ups that i want to try out, and i was wondering if there was an alternative to grommets (eyelets)? such as sewing over the hole or something? or, suggestions as to where i can get them easily and for a good price (online or in new york)

thanks so much!! Kiss
