1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Embellished Lion Jacket with Adinkra Symbols on: February 28, 2009 02:21:31 PM
I made this jacket a long time ago... and never got around to posting it.

I cut out the lion image from a shirt I bought at farmers market, and attached it to the jacket using fusible interfacing and hand sewing, then I sewed the cowrie shells on. Finally I made the Adinkra symbol patches from some scraps from an old tote bag and the rest of the lion shirt. BTW that weird shiny line on the lions face is not noticeable in real life.

2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Prescription Drug Halloween Costume on: October 14, 2008 08:11:27 PM
So I been like racking my brains trying to figure out what I should be for Halloween and time is running out !!! Here's a list of my ideas http://rhymeswithzavi.blogspot.com/2008/10/halloween-costume-ideas-for-african.html, and here are my old costumes http://rhymeswithzavi.blogspot.com/2008/08/halloween-planning.html http://rhymeswithzavi.blogspot.com/2007/11/hallowen-if-shoe-fitsjust-wear-it.html.

But I think I settled on being A PRESCRIPTION DRUG, I am going to make like a tube out of orange poster board and add shoulder straps so I could wear it like a sandwich board, then I would make pills out of paper and glue them around the tube like the bottle is half full, then I would put orange cellophane over it so it looked see through, then I would put a big label on it with lots of crazy warnings and such, and I would top it off with a flat white hat they said like push and turn on top.

Is this too much ?

I was brainstorming what drug to be originally I thought Prozac, but I think Zoloft or Vicodin would be cool to .I don't know what kind of party I am going to, If I went to an adult party I was thinking Viagra, but that might be too racy, and for a kid's party I would be Ritalin... maybe I can make an interchangeable label.

Also I was thinking of wearing all orange ,like stockings, tank top ,shoes, but I am not sure about makeup ,should I make myself look drugged up like I am high or experiencing the side effects ?
3  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Adult Costume: If the shoe fits....JUST WEAR IT on: November 01, 2007 01:49:01 PM
90% paper costume (poster board) except for the felt on the black Zebra Stripes, and the shoe strings. https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=204454.msg2181602
I have white Barbie sneaker earrings, shoe strings braided into my hair with pink barbie sneakers at the end, and a pink swoosh on my face.

Made from painted poster board and felt for the stripes, such a PAIN, it was inspired by this shoe and I used this as a visual patternhttp://www.govacant.com/af1template.pdf

its a giant replica of a Nike shoe box ,it was a plain box that I did surgery on and painted, thats a real nike shoe box on top of it

almost finished

the words are all gloopy and stupid because my white paint was all dried out.

4  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / SweatShop FREE Nikes ? now with PICS of the SNEAKER +a Wonder Woman (image PHAT) on: October 27, 2007 11:36:25 PM

Some of you might recall my post from awhile back about choosing a costume, https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=195504.  I settled on being Tia Dalma from POTC, then I saw that they sold her costumes on EBAY and I got sad. So then I decided to be Califiahttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_Califia the mythical amazon queen of California. and THEN I realized that I have costume ADD when I decided to be a transformer and then  a boombox. I collected my materials to make to a boom box costume and just looked at the box preg_replace('/(.{49})/', '$1 ', 'until...........................................................I') decided to be a SNEAKER,

5  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / I am going to be Tia Dalma from POTC on: September 11, 2007 01:35:57 AM
Ok Thanks for all your Opinions I am going to go for Tia Dalma and Cleopatra as a back up

Tia Dalma  (the witch/calypso from pirates otc:at worlds end).

Her costume seems to be like a broke down Victorian dress, in some scenes it has sleeves in some it doesn't. I am going to go without them for simplicity

I want to do it with two parts like a skirt bottom and a top. My mom has a plain long kinda canvas puffy skirt that I can use as a base and add to. The top/corset thing is the only think I am worried about. So I am going to start working on it like this weekend, and I will be picking all you're brains so stay tuned.

6  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Storm from X-men NOW WITH PICS on: October 05, 2006 08:44:36 PM
Yay HERE IT IS !!!

Me at the Kenyan Embassy, Storm descened from Kenyans

Me and more XMEN

My Costume in ACTION

Making the Cape :
I used a black plastic table cloth, and I cut it up and trimmed it with yellow duct tape

I made two

Then I used some black and yellow fun foam sheets to make the cuffs, XMEN insignias for a belt and to attach the cape.

Here's the belt and the leggings and shirt I am going to wear:

Here's what the cape should look like hanging: I just played around with it , I put the X I made on to a button I alread had, and then I pinned the button to the cape, then I will pin the button to my shirt so the cape will stay on. Heres a close up:

Heres one of the cuffs, made from fun foam and duct tape, white hair spray, silver hair spray, and some glow in the dark earrings:

The Tiara: made from black fun foam

7  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Sea Nymph / Water Fairy / Female Atlantean on: October 03, 2006 10:01:31 PM

8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / My bag needs straps... help it out on: August 21, 2006 10:15:51 PM
So I saw these bags on ebay they are canvas tote bags they measure 11" x 15 1/2", have a black zipper, and a heavy nylon snap link clip. The thing is they are strapless, so I was wondering what would be the best way to attach a strap or straps since it is already all sewn up...
All answers greatly appreciated  Kiss
9  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / multi-cultural B-day card on: August 18, 2006 02:41:50 PM
I made this card for my friend, she is black and Mexican, and she loves Japanese culture so I made her a card that reflected that, it's supposed to say happy birthday in Japanese script
10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Key Board/ Computer Keys Name Belt Buckle on: June 11, 2006 11:15:36 AM
OK I made this a while ago but I didn't get photos until last night.
My mom was throwing away an old computer and I hijacked all the keys from the keyboard. I proceeded to scour the craftster boards for something cool to make, I consider bracelets and rings but then I remembered that I don't wear jewelry so I settled on a belt buckle.

me with my belt on pretending to study for finals

I call it a prototype because it's not very sturdy and it took 5 mins to make. I took the keys for my name and year of birth, I hot glued them to a little wooden board then I hot glued that on to one of those slider belt buckles. I plan on buying one of those inlay belt buckles and using resin or something to attach the keys to increase stability.
