and then my roommate wanted me to make her one, so i did.

and then the girl from down the hall wanted one, and i made it.

and then another girl, i don't know, wanted one, and i said i should start charging....

that got her to back off.

ah, the downside to being crafty and living in a dorm. i did teach my roommate how to knit, so she doesn't ask me to make her anything anymore.

i took the photos (yeah, my avatar is the photo i used) then i used photoshop to turn them into black and white. i got the idea from spending too much time looking at the stencilling section.

http://ohmystars.net/craft/index.htm has a good tutorial in the stencilling area on how to turn photos into stencils, or in my case...this.

then i printed them out the same size as my canvas and used a permenant marker to attempt to trace the outline on to the canvas.

the white paint i used as a base didn't like that idea much, and i ended up freehanding a lot of it.

then i just painted in the black.

very cheap and easy.

it's lion brand "jiffy" yarn in duluth. not the best yarn, it's 100% acrylic, but a woman i know gave me eleven balls of it. i'm not someone to turn down free yarn.

ok. technically this is a duvet cover, but i had NO clue where to put this. i made this last spring break, and i took it to college with me.
it's made out of tee shirts, fabric samples, and design projects. the shirts all have meaning, but i never wore them. the fabrics are swatches and left overs from costumes i designed and made for my high school theatre, and the projects (the orage and white swirly thing is one) were from my costume construction class. also, there are bits of fabric my friends wrote me notes on details:
the yellow blanket on the bottom is one my mom had when she was in college. the down blanket goes on the inside, and there are buttons on the bottom to close it.

yeah. i saw it there. i've made shirts with the sides tied before (popular with the counselors out at camp with me,) but i thought since it was a halter, it would look best tied in the back. there's a tutorial at http://ohmystars.net/craft/index.htm under the slash back.

i'm from dallas.

so my friend and i got the itch to go up to the art store. i bought three 4" x 4" canvas for a buck each (i'm so cheap. i hate being cheap when it comes to art supplies.) and a tube of black and white acyrlic. i photoshoped up three photos of myself from different ages: (baby, eight, and now) and then painted them on the canvas.
sent them home to my mom as a early mother's day present.

so spring has hit, and i have way to many tees. what do i do? go thrifting. picked up this
really awesome tee for a dollar and change. i really liked the drawing, and the fact that it says "wildlife guardians" on it. but, alack it was a wee bit too big. i am so sad being so far away from my sewing machine. i'm up in chicago for college, while she sits unused in my bedroom in texas. i want to mod up my shirts, but i won't be back till june, and i'd miss all of spring! so i brush up on my no sew skills and do this with it:
love it! the only thing is that i can't wear a bra with it! so it's gonna end up a swimsuit cover shirt, or i'll wear a tank and bra under it for classes. so excited!

well, i'm not all that thrilled about how it came out, but it's not too shabby, and it kept me amused on the train.

my friend suggested that i knit it with a slit in the bottom so i could plug it in. there is also a hole in the top for the headphones and a button closure on the back.
30  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: fuzy purple thing. on: April 13, 2005 09:13:52 PM
thanks guys! um. haha. i kinda like fuzzy purple thing, which is short for: fuzzy purple thing i made one afternoon when i realized that april in chicago is still really cold, but i wanna wear tank tops now.

we can call it holey shrug though.
