31  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Small, Quick U.S. Supply Swap - FULL, signups closed on: December 23, 2005 08:04:20 AM
Swap name:  Small, Quick U.S. Supply Swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap:  Writer78
Sign-up date range:  12-23-05 - 12-30-06
Date to send item by:  1-11-06

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional):  6

Non-U.S. participants allowed?  No - US only, please

All ages allowed? Or 18+?  All ages OK

Details of swap:

My "craft crap/craft junk" supply has swelled again.  With the new year starting, I want to clean it out and swap for some different stuff.  However, I can't commit to wrangling a big swap with lots of people and international shipping, so I am doing a very small swap for US people with a tight deadline.  (Note: if the restrictions on this swap annoy or offend you, please start a swap of your own with the guidelines that you prefer.)

"Just what am I agreeing to, Writer78??"

If you sign up, you must agree to:

-Send a mid-to-large size box of usable craft supplies/junk (it's leftovers from your collection, so it won't be brand-new quality, but please don't send tiny strips of fabric or almost-empty spools of thread, for example.)
-Buy a delivery confirmation # (it costs 55 cents, and we'll all be US-based, so no exceptions - remember, this protects you from looking like a flaker if your package goes missing in the mail)
-Mail out on time (no exceptions)
-Send a PM of thanks to your sender and post a photo and/or description in the gallery
-You probably won't want to keep every last item you are sent, so you are hereby free to "regift" supplies in a later craft junk swap or to give supplies away to friends/Freecycle or to throw supplies away.  (Once you receive a box of supplies, it's yours, and I don't want you to feel embarrassed or bad if you don't keep/use them.)

Feedback will be as follows:

- Positive with note "Followed rules perfectly" if you send on time, get DC#, and PM your partner when you send and when you receive
- Positive with "Came through but weak communication" if you send on time, get DC, but fail to PM when you send and when you receive
- Positive with "Came through but no DC" if you send on time, communicate, but no DC
- Positive with "Came through but late" if you send late
- Negative if you dont' send and dont' respond to communication

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

Are there any crafts you simply don't do, such that supplies for this craft would be wasted if sent to you?
Are there any items that would be morally offensive to you (edgy/provocative stuff, animal products, etc.)?
Any allergies?
Anything else you would like your partner to know?

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

32  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / coat of arms stationery on: December 18, 2005 06:44:45 PM
I have been wanting stationery with my coat of arms on it.  Since it hasn't worked out to swap for it, I finally decided perhaps I could manage to make it myself, after all.  After a couple disasters using the wrong kind of glue (resulting in curling/lumpy cards), I managed to come up with six notecards that look like this:

I printed the coat of arms on thick white paper and used a paper cutter to trim it down to the smallest it could be.  I measured the dark green cards and the gold scrapbook paper and the coat of arms images, and then I trimmed the gold paper appropriately.  I ended up using a simple glue stick to assemble the finals.  I then trimmed some plain white paper and glued a sheet inside each card so that I can write on them with regular black ink pens and have it show up easily.
I'm pretty happy with the results.  Now I have to see if the gluestick glue holds up.  Next time I think I would use a light-colored card and just let the trim (gold, in this example) be the darker color.
33  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Craft Crap/Junk Round 4? on: December 14, 2005 08:13:03 AM
Okay, kids... when's the next Craft Junk swap?  I was in parts 1 and 2, and I already have accumulated enough crafty supply odds and ends to fill up another box and send off in a swap.  I'd love to trade!
34  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / List swap on: December 06, 2005 06:36:13 PM
Here's a concept that someone might want to tweak and use:

Everyone takes some time to create a personal list of craft wishes.  You break it down by category - sewn items, knitted items, jewelry, etc.  Under each heading, you list out everything you can think of.  The more, the better.  List all the details of what you'd really love to have, and add some pointers on things you don't want.  You are also required to add a category telling what kind of craft supplies ("craft crap") you like.

You are then assigned a partner, and you two trade lists.  She works from your (detailed!) list, without telling you what she's chosen, and she makes you an agree-upon number of items.  (If you've stumped her with your wants, she collects a boxful of craft crap based on your likes.)

Then you send, and you see what you got - hopefully something finely tuned to your favorite craft wishes!

35  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Clue trinket box on: November 23, 2005 12:21:13 PM
I had some Clue weapon pieces from a used game I bought at Goodwill.  I picked up the Clue scrapbooking stickers by Jolee's Boutique, and I also got a small trinket box, and I combined them all to come up with this:

36  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Monster tins on: November 23, 2005 12:06:11 PM
I used a Starbucks mint tin and polymer clay to make this little guy, whom I sent to my friend onthinice:

Then I made another for DevilDoll in the One Tiny Thing 2 swap (all I had available was a scanner, hence the bad pic):

37  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / "craft crap" fabric becomes purse on: November 23, 2005 12:03:13 PM
I received this fabric from tickle_me_ally in a craft junk swap a while back.  I finally got my hands on a pattern (a Simplicty "for Dummies"-line pattern) and a pair of wooden handles, and I made this:

38  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Cat portraits on: November 23, 2005 11:58:14 AM
I did a one-on-one swap with teamwang, a Craftster in England.  I drew her two cats for her.  The portraits appear here with the other little goodies I sent her.

39  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / One Tiny Thing Round 2? on: November 07, 2005 10:55:42 AM
I would like to be in a part two of this swap, but I would rather not organize this time around, just for a break.

If you are interested in organizing, please PM me!
