31  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: Renaissance gift? on: July 31, 2006 08:17:33 AM
This is correct.  It's from a Latin mass.  I believe requiem masses are used at funerals (I'm not Catholic, so I'm not sure).

Pie Iesu Domine, dona eis requiem

O sweet Lord Jesus, grant them rest

amberbrown, did you come up wtih an idea??  I've love the see the final results!  i'm a ren faire fan.
32  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / JoAnn deals on: July 30, 2006 07:05:13 PM
Did you ever get such a good deal on crafty stuff that you just HAD to brag to someone who would understand??  On Friday over lunch, I went to teh JoAnn Fabrics near work.  Their remnants were on 90% off, so I picked up a big, gorgeous piece of pale green lace.

After work, I was headed to a singles dinner (whcih turned out to be a complete and total bust), but on the way, there was a JoAnn Superstore (biggest I've ever seen!).  So I browsed their remnants and came away with a 2-yard cut of red/blue/gold decorator fabric and a generous swath of black/gold designed decorator fabric.

After church on Sunday, I stopped by the JoAnn's nearby.  I found creamy/white lace, pale pink Asian silky blend, a narrow cut of blueish tapestry, and a generous supply of muted gold decorator fabric.

So that's 7 pieces over the course of the weekend, most appropriate for ren faire costuming, which is my current obsession.  The original price for all this stuff, if I bought it off the bolt: $82.10.  The original markdown remnant price, if I had bought them wihtout the sale: $41.05.  The final price I paid: $8.21.

I'm so glad you like them!  Everybody, alwaysinmyroom made me an INCREDIBLE tote bag; a handful o' pin cushions is just a tiny thank you for her generosity!

Now, about your poor cake-less hubby... next time I sit down with the felt for a round of "baking," I'll just have to try again, huh!   Wink
34  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / How do you revamp a Sharpie? on: July 27, 2006 07:24:04 PM
OK, I'm on a weird mission - I want to take a regular Sharpie and revamp the barrel to some theme.  All I can think of is to get craft glue and ribbon; paint the glue onto the barrel; and wind the ribbon around.

But there's got to be more, better, creative ideas out there.  How does one revamp a pen barrel, other than by covering with polymer clay and baking?  Any examples or suggestions?

35  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Discussion and Questions / Re: Budget Living on: July 21, 2006 07:59:07 PM
I got Marie Claire and was, um, less than impressed.  It confirmed for me that I'm not missing anything by not reading fashion magazines.

What magazines are craftsters reading?  Does anyone know of a magazine at all similar to Budget Living?
36  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: Pen holder on: July 20, 2006 09:35:25 AM
That is what is so great about this site--there are those who take an idea and embellish or change it to make something else--
I have made hundreds of zippered pouches but NEVER once thought to put grommets on them!!

So, maybe the credit to you is the ingenious idea!! ha ha

BTW--I made mine last night--guess what all of the kids going back to school are getting from their aunt??? Wink

woohoo!  Can you post pictures??  One issue with mine is that the zipper part is more narrow than the sides of the pouch.  (That is, the finished product is not a rectangle.)  That part wasn't design genius - it was just my sewing lameness.  Any tips on making the shape better would be much appreciated!

I'm so glad you guys liked this.  the bulk of the design credit goes to the creator of the lined zipper pouch tutorial - I just added the grommets!
