31  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Vintage Craft Projects / Re: Why the 80s should not be brought back... on: May 21, 2006 09:30:43 PM
my friend wore a brow band ALL the time. she had one to match every outfit. wouldn't it be awful if those make a comeback...man i hated those things. as for the rest of the 80's clothes...it's so weird that stuff that looked sooo cool back then, looks sooo stupid now. i guess it happens in every decade - sometimes it's hard to say what the 'thing' is that's going to look stupid. especially now when everyone just seems to wear whatever the heck they want. pants/skirts any length etc., but 20 years from now, we'll be picking apart the awful stuff we wore back in '06.

anyone have thoughts on what the worst current trend or fad is?

this is the kind of stuff i drool over. i like to take my time. savor it, in all it's horrific splendor. thank you so much for the link, you made my evening.
33  CROCHET / Projects from The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller / Re: My Fit-to-be-tied on: May 21, 2006 08:45:27 AM
love the color of the yarn and the ribbon. what kind of yarn did you use if you don't mind saying. also, i've never lined a knitted/crocheted bag. did you hand sew? how do you keep the stitches from showing on the outside. sorry if these are dumb questions...

thanks for the advice. i think i'll start with something easier and work my way up. like most knitters i know, i can knit without looking, but that crochet hook requires alot of eyeball time. again, great job on that bag Landry. your cross-over skills are to be admired.

i really, really like the way the colors variegated... in fact, i have that exact yarn in my stash and you have inspired me. i wouldn't have thought of using 'sugar & cream' to make a bag - i've always just used it for dish cloths - but now that i see yours, it makes great sense because it would be very sturdy. i can't believe this is your first project! i'm a knitter, new to crochet. i just bought the S&B HH book and i hope my first project turns out half as good as yours did.

i really, really like the way you made him with no body. i'd like to see more poses of him. i like your idea of putting wires in too.
38  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Re: gallery etiquette for lousy swap item? on: March 16, 2006 07:30:14 PM
Its much more dissappointing to receive a package that isn't crafted and has little to no thought put in it than a beginner-level craft.  I think we can all appreciate that everyone has to start somewhere and swaps often give a chance to learn new skills!

wow, all this talk of getting sub-par swaps just seems to go against the whole spirit of crafting. i think you just have to assume that everybody did their best and appreciate what you received. after hearing how critically swap items are being judged - by skill level etc., i don't think i feel much like swapping anymore. i'd hate to think of how disappointed my partner might be if i wasn't up to their crafting standards. we can't all be great at everything.
