1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / A Midsummer Night's Dream - Pic Uber Heavy on: June 08, 2013 08:26:12 AM
This project is actually from last summer, but I kept forgetting to share it... But anyway, exams are over so I have no excuse!

Last Summer at my school we put on a performance of a Midsummer Night's Dream, with costumes designed by me and made with the help of a small group of other students (and my mum). It was my last year at school after several years of being the head of costume, so I wanted to go as all out as possible, and after hearing what we were putting on had wheels turning in my head for months about what things were going to look like.

Anyway, onto the pictures:

This is the final sketch for what Titania's dress and wings would look like, although as we started making things obviously got changed:

Titania and Oberon's finished outfits:

You can't see very well from this photo, but her skirt is in three layers like I planned Smiley

Puck and Bottom:

I got inspiration for puck being a satyr from this https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=310717.0#axzz2VdWYMRbz, but since Puck was being played by two very differently sized people decided that the easiest thing to do would be bandage straight onto the legs

Smaller Fairies, as well as Moth, Cobweb, Mustardseed and Peaseblossom we had 3 extra fairies (pink, blue and green):

Now the wings, these were my favourite parts of the costumes, made from coathangers covered in tights and painted. I hand bent every set of wings, the team of us painted them. We let the people playing Titania and Oberon keep their wings after the show (when I told Titania she nearly cried... I think that's a good thing?)
All of the wings together:

Titania's (my personal favourites):

Before every performance we also doused these ones in fine glitter

The Blue Fairy's:

Thanks for taking the time to look, I hope you liked them Smiley
2  COOKING / Dessert / Teapot and Teacup Cakes on: February 09, 2012 07:03:23 AM
This is a group effort by myself and two close friends, as a birthday present for another friend (who is a great lover of tea). All the cakes are plain sponges and the smaller cakes were baked in the teacups
Here are the teacups and the teapot (with handle or spout):

And here is the completed teapot:

We were pleased with how they turned out, and those who ate them seemed to like them too Smiley
3  COOKING / Dessert / I like turtles :) on: July 26, 2011 01:42:39 PM
My best friend loves turtles and it was her birthday last week so of course the obvious thing to do was make turtle cakes. I'm quite pleased with how they came out:

They were cute AND delicious! Smiley
4  COOKING / Dessert / There's Antimony, Arsenic, Aluminium, Selenium (Periodic Table Cake) on: June 09, 2011 08:12:25 AM
So it was one of my friend's Birthday on Sunday, and for her party myself and another friend decided to make her a cake. And having seen one (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=373403.0) a while ago, I decided that a periodic table cake was what we would make. And so it came to be:

C&C appreciated Smiley
5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / J&T Challenge 3: Magic Study Bracelet on: April 07, 2011 01:57:57 PM
After finding this challenge I decided fairly early on to make something inspired by Poison/Magic/Fire Study trilogy, and eventually arrived at this bracelet, inspired by Yelena:

I started off by thinking about the black and silver snake bracelet that Valek makes for Yelena in the second book - here represented by the black threading through the silver chain. There is also a silver snakey charm that I made (my arm isn't actually that colour...):

By the clasp is a cluster of silver and black leaves, to represent Yelena's family in the jungle:

6  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Clock Project on: April 01, 2011 11:09:43 AM
For my GCSE Resistant Materials Coursework last year I made an old mahogany desktop into a grandmother-y clock. Turns out I don't have any before photos (that I can find), but here is an after photo Smiley :

Any Thoughts?
