11  I Spy drawing in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by ademareej on: July 03, 2008 03:46:24 PM
I really enjoy drawing textures, and frequently draw circles of real life textures that I find around and surround them with made up patterns and shading.  One of my friends suggested I try something a bit different, so I did what I call an I Spy picture - I drew enlarged bits of four different textures, and then behind them drew a scene which contained the items I took the textures from.  Done in pencil on some random paper I found.

detail shots - see if you can find all four texture items!

I do indeed have pictures to post!

First is just a shot of the can, crammed full of fun!

I had a lot of fun painting it...I love doing gradations of colors, I don't know why.

and here is the group shot...

The shark I could not get to fit in the can, so he just hitchhiked in the box.  The puzzle pieces are actually magnets, the paintchips in front are the bookmarks and those circles are crocheted coasters.

I received an awesome package from DragonEyze today!  I always have goo intentions of taking pictures as I open my swap packages.  It never happens - I get too impatient and open the package as soon as I pick it up!

At any rate, here is the group shot.

When I first pulled out the can, I must admit, my first thought was that it was a little boring. I mean, all black? come on!  And then, I realized it was actually a CHALKBOARD!  Yes, that's right, chalkboard, how cool is that?!?

There are also two small chalkboard pots (too cute!) with a packet of herbs seeds to make my very own herb garden. (Just need some potting soil, and then they shall be lined up on my windowsill!) also a cute keychain, and some very yummy star soaps, and pretty ribbon, and a fun pencil. oh, and smarties. I almost forgot them, b/c my roommate stole them as soon as I opened the box!

These votive holders were also in the can (how did you fit all of this, DragonEyze? I was quite amazed at your packing abilities!) and were just so pretty i thought they deserved their own picture.

Thanks again, DragonEyze!

Package three goodies are in!

Here's the group shot - arm warmers, bracelets, an an ATC:

(the color is a little off...everything is a bit warmer)

Action shot of the arm warmers - my wrists are toasty! (and green. I don't really know why my camera can't take good greens...)

And the ATC:

and I just realized that there were two magnets that went on the fridge and din't make it into the pics...oops!

Thanks dittybop!

I received an excellent package from dittybop at the beginning of this week! (I couldn't find my camera cord to post until now. Blasted camera cord, why must you torment me?!?)

I have wanted to learn to screen print for a very long time, so imagine my delight when i received my very own screenprinting kit! and what screenprinting kit would be complete without an elephant screen?

dittybop also added some lovely yarns to my stash, as well as a nice wooden hook.  can't wait to try it out!

Thanks dittybop!

I made this for the crafty Detective Swap Rd 4, and my partner has received so I get to post it here!  Took me FOREVER because it is so big, but I absolutely love it - I've already started a second one for myself!  For some scale, it is pictured on a queen sized bed.  I cut the bottom points off in the picture unintentionally- I had a really hard time getting a picture of the entire blanket and this is the best I got.

16  Vine Scarf in Crochet: Completed Projects by ademareej on: May 24, 2008 07:48:51 AM
I made this for the Crafty Detective Swap Rd. 4.  I based it off of an item on my partner's Wist, though I did not follow any sort of pattern. I didn't think to measure it before I sent it, but it is quite long.  The sewing kind of drove me nuts, but I love the end product!

I recieved!  Rockstarmom did a fantabulous job, I love it all!

The obligatory group shot:

You can see my favorite candy ever, gummy cherries, in the blue bag - NOT an easy thing to find!  and some cool animal stickers next to that.

Then, on the very top of the package, was this awesome sketchbook cover:

I didn't realize it was two sided until I'd gone through the rest of the package!  Oops.

There was also a nice pencil case, and a roll for pencils or crochet hooks (my weapon of choice), and inside the pencil case there are three crochet hooks.

She covered the handles in clay (I tried to get a better close up picture, but it just wasn't happening) and there are tiny little animals (owl and octopus)  on the handles.  These just so happen to match the coolest project bag ever!

It's all awesome!  It's got my favorite animals, and it's done in corduroy, which I absolutely love.  Marvelous! Thanks Rockstarmom! (omg, I can't stop using exclamation points)

18  Socks!! in Crochet: Completed Projects by ademareej on: March 25, 2008 04:11:59 PM
These were definitely a work in progress for quite some time...over a year.  Second-sock-syndrome, majorly.  But, now they are done, and I like them a lot!  I ended up doing the heels a little bit differently from each other, due to doing them so far apart in time, I think.  All that really matters, though, is that they fit and are comfy.  And done.  Finally.

EDIT:  I used this pattern :http://members.aol.com/Sbaycgoa/patsock.htm
and this heel addition/adaptation: http://www.cs.unc.edu/~mantler/misc/fun_stuff/art/crochet/heelinstr.html

19  Re: Babette's blanket from IK Crochet 2006? in Crochetalongs by ademareej on: March 05, 2008 05:22:56 PM
Is anyone else feeling like this blanket is never going to end?  I've been working on it off and on for almost a year (granted, more off than on) and I'm really not that far...I love the look of the finished blanket but I'm having such a hard time dealing with the ends and the sewing (even though I just crochet over the ends and use the tails to sew).  Any advice on getting over that hump?

(here's a picture so it's not all words...you can see I'm really not that far.)

20  Einstein project in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by ademareej on: March 05, 2008 05:15:21 PM
This project was an assignment for some of my students, so I decided to give it a try.  All lines in the entire drawing are the words (or parts of the words)  eccentric, brilliant, and scientist.  The shading was done just by layering words and by writing them in different sizes.

Here is the full view:

And here is some detail on the face (so you can see some of the words)

and detail on the cuffs (the sweater definitely took me the longest)

thanks for looking!
