31  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: how did u learn to knit? on: March 23, 2005 04:53:47 AM
My hubby got me the "I taught myself to knit" booklet/kit from the craft store this Christmas. I struggled for weeks. Finally I gave up and then went to Michael's and took a 2-hour $15 class. Now I kinda feel like I can tackle anything!

My LYS has some knitting classes I'd like to take though, intarsia and socks. But other than that, I'm cooking with gas now!

That's an awesome box. I have one basket for yarn, but of course it's already overflowing. So now I have that basket plus three sacks full sitting around my night table.

Trust me, it gets easier!

Williamsburg 321? I could swear I saw that at my Michael's today. I'll probably be back there if the next few days if you want me to check. We could work out something for me to send it to you. Plus all the homespun is on sale.

Stitch N Bitch Nation has cute flowers in it. It also has a butterfly pattern which would look adorable pinned in your hair! (It's part of the "Butterflies are free" scarf pattern. But it is made separately.
35  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Felted messenger bag pattern...help! on: March 21, 2005 02:05:01 PM
Ok. It probably won't get finished today. I made the straps too thick and I have to unravel them. But tomorrow I swear. Otherwise it won't be ready for my sissy's b-day!

Me too! Me too! I have no idea what I'll wear them with, but I must have some!

I'm making a messenger like variation of Meema's Felted Tote from SNB. Making the base longer and narrower and adding straps and ala the Candy Stripes Messenger bag in SNBN. I'm using Peace Fleece and working with two strands and am estimating that I will use 3-4 skeins. I used 3 skeins for my Meema tote. I'm using all black for this for my sister and went ahead and bought 4 to be safe.

I don't know that if you single strand knit it if it would be strong enough? I think Cascade 220 skeins come in about the same lengths/weights as the peace fleece as it was my alternate choice for my bags.

My bag is in progress, so I can't tell you if it will work. I'm hoping to finish it no later than tomorrow though. So if you can be patient on that, I can post finished pics and give you the pattern I've modified.
38  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: GOOD baby knit patterns/books?? on: March 19, 2005 01:12:39 PM

This thread has the cutest hat & matching booties. The patterns are free on diynetwork.com but they are from a book. I saw the lady on the knitty gritty show and she had lots of cute baby stuff in that book, all with a bit of a modern edge.

I like a lot of the baby patterns in Stitch N Bitch Nation, including the lil devil toddler pants, baby's first tattoo sweater, etc.
