191  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Cherry handkerchief handbag on: February 15, 2011 06:23:13 AM
Craftster voyeur no more! This is my first post after years of drooling over the pretties on Craftster.

A simple, clutch-size handbag made from an antique scarf/handkerchief with appliqued cherries and some silly filigree on the strap.
I lined it with some thin cotton batting left over from a scrap quilt project, and then embroidered it down in places, because I thought machine stitching might look gaudy with the antique-ish look I was trying to achieve.

I added some old lace to spruce up the strap, and some old buttons, too, from my button bin.

And, of course, I took way too many pictures because I couldn't tell which one I liked more.

Thanks for peeking!

Very cool - I could look at this all day long.  I agree...a light wood frame, or even medium toned, would look nice.

I never even would have considered trying to up-cycle a plastic cup.  You've blown my mind...

Awesome...always wondered what to do with old inner-tubes from bikes.  So cool!
196  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: Towels--terry cloth hand towels and wash cloths on: February 14, 2011 08:49:47 PM
Even Martha can have good ideas sometimes....I guess if you've got lots of smaller towels/washcloths, you can patchwork them together to make this bag come true.

Cover with the box(es) with fabric.  Either use it to store crafting items, or punch holes along the one edge, fill with recycled paper cut in the same shape, and bind it with string or yarn along that edge, making a book.

What can I do with a bunch of men's neckties?
