11  3d wet felted bag in Felting: Completed Projects by Paulasews on: August 16, 2008 08:16:56 AM
This is my first attempt at '3d felting' other than felted soaps and beads. I felted around a largish biscuit tin then cut a slit to release it. I cut strips down from the slit to attach the handles then added buttons to hold the strips down and a few beads to hold the middle flaps down to reveal the inside colour. I am pretty happy with the outcome and have even used the bag (very unlike me to use something I have made!) I am working on a few other felted bags at the moment, I think if I made this style again I would felt the edges of the cut strips rather than cutting them once it has dried as I feel over time these points might weaken. Anyway, here's a few pics, I would love to hear what you think, no need to be too gentle as I am developing this idea!

12  wet felted lovebirds in Felting: Completed Projects by Paulasews on: August 16, 2008 07:22:19 AM
It is my parent's 39th wedding anniversary today and as I am visiting them for the summer I decided to make them a little gift this morning. The bird's 'skins' are made from some wet felted sheets that I had made then not used and they are stuffed with some carded merino wool that I didn't like the colour of, they are holding a little heart cut from one of the sheets between their beaks and I sewed them onto a twig. I think it's very cute but it's maybe more my style than theirs!

13  birds in trees quilt top, opinions desired on what to do next! in Quilting: Discussion and Questions by Paulasews on: August 10, 2008 03:49:03 AM
Hi, I have just finished hand appliqueing the birds onto the background and I thought I would pause and get some opinions about what to do next, I am thinking about adding a border with some flying geese dotted through it then quilting the top just to the batting and hand quilting musical notes/scores through the background then tying the backing on with fine ribbon to look like tree blossom. I have also considered appliqueing leaves. At the moment it is about 5 x 3 feet and would be a wall hanging but I have also been considering using this as a panel towards a bed quilt.

What would you guys do? I would love to hear anyone's ideas, I am not an experienced quilter at all but I am happy enough with this so far that I want to take time to turn it into something I love rather than something that I am satisfied with.

thanks for looking!

14  Nappy cake in Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies by Paulasews on: July 22, 2008 11:53:31 AM
My friend had her baby shower this Saturday and I made her this nappy cake, she doesn't know what she is having so I wanted to keep it really neutral and in the end stuck with all white! it includes nappies as filling (naturally) a snuggle towel wrap, several bibs and onesies as icing and socks as roses. It was fun to make and she really loved it.

15  a couple of small projects in Quilting: Completed Projects by Paulasews on: June 07, 2008 11:13:05 AM

This is a project that I completed at a weekend workshop, we were using screen printed text to embellish the fabrics before creating quilted panels, I don't know why I did it the shape I did or why I used two layers and created loops but there you go!

Here is a closer look

This is just a small simple quilt I made a couple of weeks ago, it is nowhere near perfect but it is bright and friendly!

16  Wooden mechanical toy with dancing clogs in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Paulasews on: June 07, 2008 10:49:04 AM
My friends brought me back these little wooden clogs from their trip to Amsterdam, they thought maybe I would paint them.......I thought maybe I would paint them until I had a free day at school (I teach textiles) yesterday and I decided to enlist the resistant materials teachers into helping me make a mechanical toy with them! When you wind the little handle on the left the cams turn and push the clogs up and down so they do a little dance! I got to use all the big scary machines to make it as well, sooooo much fun!

17  cloth doll fairy in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Paulasews on: December 27, 2007 02:44:32 AM
I made this for my friend's birthday a few years ago and just came accross a photo of it on my parent's computer so I thought I would post it! I used a pattern from a Patti Culea's Creative Cloth Dolls. My friend loves fairies and gardening so those were the inspiration for her clothing.

We do a secret santa at work, here's the bag I made for the lady whose name I drew. I really love the shape of it so I think I will make a few more.
