6  CUPCAKE! in Halloween Costumes by littlenutbrownsquirrel on: October 31, 2011 01:45:48 PM
This year I expressed my affection for cupcakes by being one!

I realize that's more or less the same 4 pictures but oh well.

The cupcake wrapper is made out of cardboard, tape, and a yard of aqua satin. I wrapped the cardboard around myself to make a little tube then taped the hell out of it! Next I sewed a long long tube of aqua satin (I cut the yard in half length wise and sewed the two pieces together then folded it over), made a casing for elastic around the top, put the cardboard through, and taped the ends of the cardboard together. I pleated the satin as I went.

The frosting is made of a yard of pink satin. This took some effort... I've never made any kind of shirt before and it was a little tricky but my guess work paid off! I cut the fabric to kind of look like a triangle, I used elastic at the top and bottom, and sewed the sides together- leaving space for my arms.

And last but not least! My bow! Sewn from red cotton fabric. Nothing too exciting there- I used a safety pin to pin it to my frosting.

And voila! A cupcake!

Hooray! Happy Halloween!

7  Vintage Halloween Decor! in Halloween Decor and Parties by littlenutbrownsquirrel on: October 25, 2011 01:38:23 PM
I made this recently for this years round of vintage Halloween! My partner, KarenLouiseM, mentioned her love for the craft of the wonderful rackycoo and posted a link in her questionnaire to this project: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=199329.msg2115700#msg2115700

...which this cat is most definitely based on. It was my first time working with paper clay which is AWESOME. And it was also my first time painting a folky kind of face like that which was intimidating at first (cause painting is not my favorite) but it was SO easy when there's no pressure to look perfect.

The book form I got at A.C. Moore- it came brown and I painted it black and used gold paint to give it some vintage flair. The pumpkins I cut from card stock, the tiny bats are made from a dollar paper punch from A.C. Moore, the cat and candy corns are made from paper clay, and the tree is wire wrapped with yarn. And nearly EVERYTHING is covered with Modge Podge!

Happy Halloween, Craftsters!

10  A tiny plate of fast food! in Crochet: Completed Projects by littlenutbrownsquirrel on: September 29, 2011 02:14:52 PM
Newest edition to my home decor:

I've had an obsession with tiny crochet burgers recently. It started with the cookie which looked like the bottom of a burger bun which led to other burger fixings and fries to accompany!
