Update, the sticky up bits on the raised beds only lasted 2 years, they were more of a nuisance than a help.

So many wonderful projects! it makes me think I've been out of it for weeks, not just a few days.

EdelC, I so much love the teeshirt, and I must say, me too. Heaven help the Daily Mail when they look back on their conduct over the last few years.
5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Re: 2017 DeStash Along on: January 03, 2017 01:27:24 PM
I am a supplies hoarder. I've expanded beyond my storage several times.

I shared my crafting hobby with my mother-in-law, who died earlier this year. And so, she asked me, before she died, to sort out her stash and not let her children throw it all in a skip. All I had to deal with was her stash, whilst her children dealt with everything else in the house.

I still haven't finished working through that stash, whilst the rest of the house is done some weeks ago. I've spent a week and a half of 8 hour days so far and worked through 4 out of the 5 rooms full of crafting materials. This is not because I'm reminiscing over the supplies or admiring them, it's because half of the boxes are labeled "odds" and contain anything that didn't have a home immediately to hand. The other half are labeled e.g. glitter, cards, shells e.t.c. BUT all the boxes contain "odds".

It is heartbreaking, finding so many half finished projects, separated from their remaining materials. Cards and gifts, clearly planned for individuals, who never received them and now never will, because I can't complete them. Also, there is a lot of money invested in supplies, bought because she couldn't find the last lot that she bought. I have a drawer full of tubes of her favourite glue, about a third of them opened, a whole drawer, full of one sort of glue. I've collected it together, from all the boxes and drawers I've sorted.

I promise, I will sort out my stash. If a box says wool, it will hold wool. If it says A4 paper, it will hold A4 paper and nothing else. I may add a little to my stash from my mother-in-law, but not much. I will make sure that it goes where it will be appreciated and used.

Thank you so much everyone for the cards in the card exchange: I've loved receiving your cards with such kind messages. Thank you.

That rust dyed scarf is so amazing. Glorious colours: I have so much envy.

Wow! I am so impressed with the art work, I try, I dabble and then I'm usually so disappointed with the result that there's a lot of confetti to clear up. I don't know why I'm so perfectionist with art, when other mediums I'm more relaxed with. Ah well. I love the free loose expression in your painting, so much honesty as well. Wonderful.

Project Name: Jammin
Brief Description: I like to forage and to make good use of what I have and one of my favourite skills to use is preserving. Way back in the summer I picked a lot of gooseberries and blackberries and, having nothing to go with them at the time, popped them in the freezer for later use. Roll on autumn and there were apples: so many apples! There is a beautiful crab apple tree around the corner and a number of ordinary trees too. I collected them up and made jam, lots of jam. Blackberry and toffee apple jam (sounds so much better than I ignored it too long and it nearly burned), crab apple jelly, quince and apple jam (which I liked so much I made a second batch!) and gooseberry and apple jam.

YKYACW you're knitting on the train and decide that you want to start cabling but have nothing but a pair of needles and your yarn and ......

A pair of spectacles (which work surprisingly well as an impromptu cable needle). All I need then is some way to see what I'm knitting!

Ooh! lovely Journal. It makes me want to get paper making again. If only I used the journals I make. Sigh.

Project Name: The hope of Spring brought to Christmas
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: I hand make my Christmas cards each year, its a highlight of my recycling year and as the year returns (like a meteorite shower) so does my enthusiasm for all things green. I would like to present my set of 6 snow drop Christmas cards. The wee pictures of spring-heralding snowdrops were on a card I received last year, their layered backdrops are also recycled, the shinies are foil sweet wrappers and they are all on small squares of my handmade paper. Which again is recycled from the junk mail that comes through my letterbox, so they are green by colour as well as credentials. The cards themselves are from an inherited stash. Id love to say there are 6 layers on each card, but Id have to count the glue to do that! The cards don't take that long to assemble, but the paper squares are a labour of love.
