11  Re: Monster Swap Round 4 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by jmiller614 on: September 10, 2012 08:56:56 AM
Received this weekend from rebecnik!

A necklace felt snake. I have absolutely no idea how to felt so this is really neat. I love that it still holds it shape no matter what.

A creature's wing in a lovely little box. Neat idea for a wing. Plus it is lovely. The best part was rebecnik's note describing the mythical creature from which the wing came from. I did not bring the note to work so I do not have it to share at the moment, but the description brought this to life.

And the best part! Honestly a truly beautiful piece:

It has an anti-body hiding behind the tree. So subtle. I don't think he looks too mean though. The details in the trees is what she had posted in the swap thread as a teaser.

I need to learn this technique. I absolutely love it. This is soooooo going on my front door around halloween. Although I think it would work more for just halloween. A general rule to live by?

Thank you!

12  Re: "Work Your Theme" ATC Swap Round 2 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by jmiller614 on: August 21, 2012 10:14:18 PM
So I need some help on how to display my calendar. Here is an example of a few days in december:

I don't have 26 yet.

I had two ideas. One to get a big frame with the month on the left, similar to the layout above, with all 30/31 days shown.

Or to get one of those flip picture albums. Have a left flip and a right flip. The left side I only flip over each month and the right every day. So I would flip back to the beginning of the days every time I flip a month. This one could go on my desk at work. The other idea I would hang at home.

Thoughts? Other suggestions?

From witchhippie for my calendar theme:

They are both beautiful but I have to ask how the "23" was done. It has what looks like a cracked glass layer on it and the layer is competely uniform in thickness. I've never seen anything like it. Very cool!

From gozer:

So that is clever! Each bill actually looks like a real bill. Either a great print/crinkle/tea? job or gozer lives in a community where everyone is the size of an elf. I love it for Presidents Day.

From crazyda79:

It's graffiti art! It really does look like it was spray painted on a wall.

From jillybeans:

This is neat because I have gotten a map themed one in the past. But the number was a piece of map, not the background. I need to look back at the number but I am hoping they are next to each other in the calendar so it looks like they were planned to be opposites.

I received a ton from bunny1kenobi! Well okay, I was in multiple groups with her. She managed to make each one unique.

This was is sewn and absolutely beautiful.

The cutest card. And every march this is going to remind me to actually pay attention if this saying is true. My april card is about showers and my may card about flowers. I love that people have incorporated these into the months.

I tried to figure out the song but there just wasn't enough. I like the look of sheet music in ATCs and always think I need to get my hands on some.

This one was sent as a "replacement" to a previous Christmas card she sent in the monthly atc swap. For some reason she though the other one was not good enough. I would say the other one was more classic and this one more cute/humorous. Notice the lights tangled in the antlers? Smiley I think I might use one for Christmas Eve and one for Christmas! I can't decide.

Thank you all! My calendar looks fabulous laid out on my table. I will have to post a progress picture!

From mimblewimble6:

I almost feel like this should be the first or last day of the month to open or close it out! Fantastic. I can feel the drama.

From fabricfriend:

I am actually a bit jealous of her "3" ability. When I cut out 3s, they never have the ratios right but this one does. It's great. (I feel like Tony the Tiger now...)

From Plucky1_08:

I think this could totally work for Memorial Day or for 9/11. Perfect.

From AugustBell:

A cool collage of little pieces to form the numbers. For some reason I think of Fred Flintstone which is awesome, because I haven't thought of that cartoon in years. Creative!

Who doesn't like to make art? And who wouldn't LOVE to randomly discover a bit of art in their local library or park?

Each swapper will create 5 small items (they can be duplicates or each different) to send to their partner to abandon. The receiving partner will place these items around their local hometown in the hopes of inspiring others and bringing a smile. Additionally, each person will include 1 small item for their partner. Again, this could be the same as what you made to be abandonned or something different along the swap theme.

As art is received and abandonned, the swapper should post pictures in the gallery. It would be fabulous if the swapper was able to follow up on the art to see if it had been discovered and post as well if possible.

The swap is open to each one's creativity so make this your own! Hiking last weekend I discovered a tree with christmas ornaments in the middle of the woods and it made my day. Hopefully we can share our own smiles and create our own game to figure out where to abandon.
This swap is inspired by a posting by a fellow craftster at https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=408484.0

16  Re: ONGOING ATC SWAP - MAY 2012 in The Swap Gallery by jmiller614 on: May 28, 2012 05:46:55 PM
I received two, although I'm afraid I will be posting the second tomorrow as I left it in my work bag.

But from deathbeforedishes: February!

I keep trying to figure out what book the pages might be from. Reference to a TA and school, but that doesn't help me much. Winter months are a good time to sit down with a book and a blanket so hopefully this will remind me to do so. Thank you!

17  Re: Matchbox Swap Round 6 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by jmiller614 on: May 28, 2012 05:42:30 PM
Hooray, I received both boxes!

From crabcake:

My favorite part is actually the road inside the box. How clever to add that little detail. And a good use of a map which covers the box. Who needs maps anymore Smiley Also a good use of old stamps. I wonder if I have any hanging around some year. And the box was actually a bit deformed because she stuffed it SO full of quite the array of little items. Never thought to put a foreign coin in. And in the past I have definitely needed a few fake leaves for an ATC so those will be put to good use very soon.

From whistley:

Some great little items. Whistley - how did you do the etching in the washer? Very cool and I want to do that! And the tiny matches button is hilarious to include in a matchbox. The homemade stamp has already been put to use. In case anyone can't tell the box decoration, it's a strand of DNA made of beads. So creative. And flexible so you can actually play with it. I never would have thought to use beads. Love it!

Thank you!

18  Re: Beginners inchies 3 swap gallery in The Swap Gallery by jmiller614 on: May 22, 2012 11:12:36 AM
The last set of inchies for the swap maybe? Woobie unfortunately had to remake for me as the first set has found a home somewhere - hopefully not just in a crack behind a shelf at the post office.

But the cover of the card with two inchies. I have to admit, these are probably my favorite. The travelocity gnome! Hehe. How clever. And what a great job in Travelocity has done with their advertising.

And some great drawn bugs that already give me the crawlies and some constellations. And constellations that are a little lesser though of I think. And the proper names used. The sparkles make these.

Thank you woobie!

19  Re: Ongoing ATC Swap - April 2012's Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by jmiller614 on: May 16, 2012 08:01:42 AM
My final card, from faemystique!

I very clever twist on November. Whimsical, as she put it. But really just awesome. And completely different than any other one. Love the creativity!

Thank you!

I do have to apologize that it appears my pictures were taken in the middle of the night. I 'm guessing my shutter was not working correctly and I will try to take better pictures when I get home.

From quasior:

I love the handdrawn bugs. Look at the detail on such a little space! I was going to send these to a friend to try to get her hooked on craftster, but I am growing quite fond of them and may start my own bug collection.

Some really great pieces of art on a mini scale and also, as an awesome laughter inchie, a quasior. Get it? Haha. One theme of mine was space. Love it!

And from ransom:

Some cleverly placed cutouts I believe. Quite the time spent finding such good artifacts I imagine. I like the pilot a hot air balloon with the little bird. It's awfully cute. And a beautiful array of colors throughout the collection.

Thank you both!!
