Thanks for looking, everyone!

Patraw-- Yes! I'm leaving the framework, as I custom built them to sit on the irregular rocks under the soil. And creating a little bit more tread was the reason for the etched designs : )

Excelsior- That's the idea! We've been wanting to put some terraces/garden boxes in our front yard, and I'm hoping this can provide a little more direction (and stability, haha) for the next steps (haha)!

Alright! I managed to upload some photos to flickr to use....

Prompt: June Battle: Goblins!

Team: Heroes!

Bonus Points: community, brain power, EPIC!

Project Name: Hillside stairs

Project Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=455198.new#new

Brief Description:
I've been outside a lot during the past two weeks figuring out how to to build steps up our weirdly rocky and steep-ish front yard.
It took as long as it did due to large chunks of bedrock I kept running into under the soil... (I chiseling through by hand with a mattock.) I ended up cutting the space for each step first, and then building a wooden frame to fit the area before moving on to the next step.
Then, I filled the steps with some soil, gravel, and concrete (and reinforced with spikes and rebar when possible).
Now the yard is way easier to access!

I put this in the goblins category because I was aiming to make the steps really well (like a goblin sword) to withstand whatever the world throws at them.

It's been a long time since I've posted anything!

Since school has been out, I have spent a bunch of time building some stairs up our (relatively) steep front yard. We had built two garden boxes a few years ago, but time got away, and I just finally had some time to get to work on more easily accessing the rest of the yard!

I ended up chiseling through a lot of rocks by hand... then built wooden frames which I filled with concrete. I reinforced some areas with railroad spikes and rebar, but many of the steps are sitting on solid rock beneath, so I hope they hold up for a long time!

Here's the yard before:

And one more from the top of the steps:

Thank you for looking!

Ahhhh! Happy birthday, June babies! I've disappeared for the past couple weeks... working on building stairs in our front (steep) yard! I finally have almost returned to the land of the living after having a huge reaction to sunburn which I've never had before, and was going to post... and I see that the photo hosting is down! Bummer.. Anyway, I plan to participate this summer for sure, and I have at least one EPIC! project so far.

Roler, that sonnet is fantastic! And that last couplet should be made into a wall hanging or something...
