11  Themed Doll Stands for Blythe in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by Leslieshappyheart on: June 15, 2013 03:51:02 AM
I've been working on a series of stands for Blythe dolls. These dolls don't stand on their own, and they are sold with a plain plastic stand.  I wanted to make something really cute and fun, with a theme or a scene that would be a good display item.

Here's the first one I made; the theme was "spring".

All the supplies came from local craft stores (Joann's and Michaels). The base is a wooden plaque with a hole drilled in it for the 1/4" dowel that holds the doll in place. I made the bush by embroidering flowers on a fabric yoyo, then stuffing it.

You just position the doll with the dowel inside the back of her clothes and she stands there just fine! I made this dress and headband to go with the stand and expand on the theme.

The next one is a "candy land" theme. I found the little wheelbarrow at Michaels, and I made the candy out of polymer clay.

The tree is a cone made of felt.

Again, I made this dress and headband to go with the stand and go with the theme.

I made this last one for Mountains and Clouds in the recent IYP swap. She is a musician, so I knew that would be a great theme to go with for her.

Everything is hot glued in place, and there is a square of felt on the bottom of the stand so it won't scratch the shelf or table where it is displayed.

This time I bought the dress instead of making it, because it came with the plastic violin and bow that I needed for the stand! I also purchased the music stand from a dollhouse supply place.

I'm currently working on a new one; it's very similar to the first one, but in place of the deer there will be a patch of poly clay watermelons. I have a lot of ideas for these and I want to make them all, because it's so much fun!

12  Re: IYP 23: Summer Do Si Do GALLERY!! in The Swap Gallery by Leslieshappyheart on: June 13, 2013 01:03:57 PM
I received a wonderful box full of Blythe doll goodies from Mountains and Clouds!

Here are two of my dolls modeling the clothes she sent--I love the brown dress with embroidery, and the denim skirt is so cute!  She also made up her own brand name and logo--"Mango Season"--and stamped it on the tee shirts and the big yellow beach bag.  Cool idea, Sara! I really love the dress form she sent (wearing the long sleeved tee shirt). One item that you can barely see in this picture is a rolled-up beach mat, in the back of the yellow bag. The garland of origami cranes is unbelieveable--it has it's own picture at the end.

The smaller items: a roller suitcase, poly clay cupcakes and candies (so cute!), necklace pendants featuring pictures of water that Sara took herself, an assortment of eye chips that she hand-painted (Blythe dolls have four sets of eyes that you can change by pulling the string. Some of the standard colors are weird--pink and orange!--so it's standard practice to remove those and replace them with something pretty.  Like these from Sara!!!!)  Also in this picture you can see tiny poly clay fruits and hot cross buns.  The banana is the cutest thing I ever saw!! And one more BIG beach bag.

My favorite thing has to be this garland of origami cranes.  Each one is so tiny, I can't imagine how she folded all of these. They are made from different multicolored papers. This garland will have a place of honor in the doll house.

Thanks so much for everything, Sara, this was a fantastic swap!  I'm so glad you invited me to be your partner!!

13  Re: Morsbag Round 2 Swap--GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by Leslieshappyheart on: June 13, 2013 10:47:51 AM
I received a fabulous package from the fabulous nooitaremybirthday!!
She made a small mistake on the first morsbag, so she made another one--and I got both!! Yay!  These are made of sturdy lightweight canvas, and as you can see, she used my love of hearts as the inspiration for her decoration!  I love these and can't wait to use them!

She also sent the cutest pair of needlefelted bird ornaments ever!  And a very cool crafting supply: a skein of Himalayan sari silk.  Isn't it gorgeous?

I also got a cute bookmark featuring my favorite animal, a cat! And she sent me a note on a card she made herself. But wait til you see what's in the matchbox...

...!!!!!

Can you believe, she painted tiny portaits of my kitties as a "last minute" idea? They are too much, I'm DYING from the cuteness I tell you!

A million thanks, Kira, you are an awesome partner and I love everything you sent!

16  Perler Bead Doll Table in Completed Projects by Leslieshappyheart on: May 09, 2013 12:36:09 PM
Did you know that we are currently hosting a perler bead challenge here in Misc. Topics?  It's true!  Click HERE to read all about it.

Even though I can't enter (since I'm helping to host it) I went out and bought myself a package of perler beads in assorted colors, and today I decided to make a table for my Blythe dolls.  I must say, it came out great!  And it wasn't hard at all--the main thing I learned is to be patient (it takes a while to place all those beads) and to use tweezers!

Here you can see the underside of the table; I made two open-centered squares to go under the top, to add visual depth to the top and to give support to the legs. I glued it all together with a hot glue gun.

I'm sure you can come up with something fun and creative--why not give it a try? You have until June 11th to create your perler bead masterpiece for the challenge.

17  Re: "Anything Goes" Perler Bead Challenge; crafting period April 30-June11 in Discussion and Questions by Leslieshappyheart on: May 09, 2013 12:15:45 PM
It's ironic that I can't enter something in this challenge since I'm helping to host it, because I'm very excited about perler beads! In fact, I went out and bought myself a package of assorted colors, and today I decided to try to make something.  I have a collection of Blythe dolls so I thought I would make them a table, and I must say, it came out great!

Here you can see the underside and the legs before I hot-glued them on.  I made two extra pieces (open squares that look like picture frames) to go under the table top, to give it more depth and to give the legs some support

This was so much fun, and when I was casting around for something to make with my perler beads, I saw a ton of cool projects online. I can't wait to see what YOU make and enter here!  Are you working on something yet? You have until June 11th to create your perler bead masterpiece!

18  Morsbag Swap Round 2 sign ups closed; send by June 14 in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by Leslieshappyheart on: May 09, 2013 08:12:56 AM

If you are a person who can never have too many bags, this is the swap for you!!

Here's the GALLERY

Morsbags are handmade, re-usable, fabric shopping bags.  The website will give you directions to make a morsbag, and lots of information and inspiration about shopping “green” by avoiding plastic bags that can harm the environment.  I have made a few morsbags myself, and I can say that they are easy and fun to make!  I posted a tutorial on my blog that you might find helpful if you have any questions about the construction of the bag.

The morsbag is a very simple, basic bag (with the exception of French seams!—don’t worry, you CAN do it!!), so feel free to add something:  what about a pocket for coupons?  Maybe some ribbon, or an embroidered initial? Be creative and have fun!

To round out the package you send to your partner, you will also make two small or one medium item.  A small item takes about an hour to make; a medium takes about two hours to make.  Stalk your partner and make something she will love.

Details of swap:
--You will craft one morsbag (using the pattern at the morsbag website) PLUS two small or one medium item to suit your partner’s tastes.
--You will have 4 weeks to craft, from May 16-June 14, 2013.
--You have creative freedom to use any fabric, any embellishment, any technique you want to make your morsbag and the extras;  you are encouraged to put your own spin on it!  Just be sure it is something your partner will like.
-- You will need to post in this thread at least once a week so we know you are still crafting with us.

*PLEASE READ THIS!*
- No one like to be flaked on, so if you aren't sure if you can do this swap, don't sign up.

- If you must send late, let the organizers and your partner know ASAP.

19  Morsbag Round Two in New Swap Theme Ideas by Leslieshappyheart on: May 05, 2013 03:31:41 PM

Hey sewists!  Susanab and I want to know if you would be interested in another round of morsbag crafting?

You would be encouraged to do "something" to the bag to make it special--you know, add a feature or embellishment of some kind.

Here's the GALLERY from the last swap.

We would be crafting one morsbag for our partner plus one medium-ish item inspired by stalking of said partner.  With a week of sign-ups and a 3-4 week crafting period, the send-out date would be around June 14th.  Does that work for you?

Come on, get excited, it's MORSBAG TIME!!!

20  Kitty Kindle Cover in CHALLENGE 86 ENTRIES by Leslieshappyheart on: May 03, 2013 05:00:34 AM
I joined the March Birthday Swap in 2012, and one of the things my partner wanted was a Kindle cover. Her interests included cats, and the colors pink and gray together, so when I found this fabric in my stash I was so excited!!  It's a simple sleeve with a button and loop closure.

I used my Sizzix to cut the scalloped medallion and the "H" for my partner's first name. I don't have a Kindle, so I used the dimensions I found on the internet to make a "fake" Kindle out of foam core board, so I could check the fit as I was sewing it. It would have been a disaster if it was too small!!

This last picture is just for fun--my partner sent me these cute crocheted monsters for my birthday gift, and they arrived just before I sent her the Kindle cover.  I think they approve!
