1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / will this work? on: March 17, 2005 01:43:06 PM
I want to make wipe-off plant markers. I was thinking of making something out of tongue depressors and writing on it with a grease pencil (so it can wipe off and reuse next year)

How should i treat the tongue depressors to make the surface so that it can be wiped off? could i decopage?

3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / make your own art/craft sand? on: March 14, 2005 06:45:52 AM
Has anyone had any luck making their own craft or art sand? I have heard several techniques, including mixing play sand with powdered tempera paint, food coloring and water, and even shaving colored chalk into the sand.  If anyone has every tried any of these methods, i'd appreciate some feedback as to how it worked!

I'm helping to lead a girl scout daycamp this summer where we have approximately $4/girl for the week to make 4 crafts. So i figured this would be a great way to save money!

Thanks! Kristin
4  COOKING / Dessert / Easy Peanut Butter Cookies on: March 10, 2005 10:34:30 AM
Ok so if you like peanut butter cookies you MUST try this simple 4 ingredient recipe. I whip them up all the time for my boy--when we are craving something sweet this hits the spot!

1 cup sugar
1 cup peanut butter
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla

Preheat oven to 350. Put sugar in mixing bowl and PB on top and mix together. Then add egg and vanilla. Mix until well blended.

Roll in 1 inch balls and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Flatten slightly with fork.  Bake for 8-12 minutes on top rack, depending on your oven. Remove from oven, let cool for 1 minute and remove cookies to wax paper. Enjoy!
5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Gifts for teen girl on: March 09, 2005 08:14:42 AM
Hi Everyone! i need some help coming up with some gifts for my 15 year old cousin for easter (i've started this trend of giving her an easter basket and now i can't break myself of it!)

I've already decided that i'm going to make a record bowl for the "basket" and fill it with fun things. I'm filling it with some marble magnets in a tin--and i bought cute little notebook at the dollar store to go in too.

That's all i've come up with! i'm looking for something inexpensive..preferably something i could put a personal touch on. Please give me any ideas you have! thanks!
6  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Help! What type of paint should i use?! on: March 02, 2005 06:03:45 AM
Hi everyone! First and foremost let me just say that i have finally joined the crafster crowd! i sit and drool over the marvelous projects on a regular basis and finally decided to register and share some ideas!

And just in time, because i need your help! I am starting a new project, painting rocks for outdoor use in my garden. But i'm not sure what type of paint to use. The rocks will have designs stenciled onto them, and whatever paint i use, i'd like it to be weatherproof and if possible, i'd like it to be durable enough to be walked on as a stepping stone.  Does anyone have any idea what type of paint i should use? Also, should i coat the stone with any type of sealant?

One other thing i'm thinking about doing is putting a light dusting of glitter on my rocks. Any ideas on how i can get it to stick and not wash off in rain? I'm guessing that a sealant over the whole rock would solve this problem but i'm just not sure what to use!

Thanks for any help you can offer!
