1  Re: Newbie Swap Round 18 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by sarah-beth on: April 03, 2012 12:24:22 PM
yay! Sorry it took me so long to post pics! This last week was a rough one. But here are the pictures!!!

All the items came with awesome Haikus (did I spell that right?) Tis is the one that cam with the Tardi Wall organizer

Here is the tardis on my wall by my craft books (sorry its sideways)

She sent me some lovely jewelry here is the bracelet it is sooo pretty and catches the light!

The arm warmers were hard to photograph but they are so cute and fit perfectly.

and here is the awesome box she sent

The box is perfect because I have been needing a box to put my jewelry in. I am mode podging the Haikus she wrote on the inside of the box since they are too cool to toss.

Here are the pics of the bows
this was is so much fun!

This one reminds me of disney I am striking my best disney pose

And this one reminds me f Alice in wonderland

unfortunately the octopus did not make it throughout the mail but its okay because I hot glued his hundreds of its back together. here he is. I rolled up one of the Haikus she wrote about him and put in in the bottle so its like a Message in a bottle

2  diy terrarium/ aquarium floor with mini tute (pic heavy) in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by sarah-beth on: January 01, 2012 04:55:08 AM
This is zeus

He is a leopard gecko. He and his girlfriend, Bella, live in a terrarium in my boyfriends room. We adopted them from a friend and LOVE them. When we got them they were living on hard packed sand which is no the best for them. Geckos tend to ingest the sand and get sick. So my bf and I set out to make a tiled floor. we wanted something that looked natural, was smooth and would retain heat. We are stationed in germany so we had to find our materials at the german version of home depot.

We settled on some grey flat rocks that came meshed together. I dont remember how much they were but they were reasonably priced.

I cleaned the bottom of the cage and put the rocks in to see how the would fit.
After that I used tile glue to glue down the rocks

After it dried I grouted it with a dark grey grout and covered it with a few coats of  outdoor modgepodge to seal it.

It was a messy project but so worth it in the end. the floor has worked out great.

And here are the geckos enjoying their new fancy floor.

4  Antler Headband in Costumes: Completed Projects by sarah-beth on: December 10, 2011 08:31:30 AM
So my friend and her dog Sam are red cross volunteers. they go to the Landstuhl Medical Center on the weekends and cheer up the patients.  This weekend she is going as Mrs Clause and wants Sam to be a reindeer. We live on an Army base in Germany so it was impossible to find antlers for him to wear. I volunteered to make em for her.  They are pretty messy but I'm pretty proud of them. I didn't use a tutorial, I just made it up as I went. I'm going to make another one to wear to my office xmas party. I will post pics of sam wearing it after they go. Sam is a big do with a big head and human size headbands fit him so this as perfect Cheesy

How I did it
Made a cardboard template.
Cut out felt x 4
Sewed each pair together right sides together
Turned inside out
Bent a thin wire in half and insert it in the antler
Stuffed the antler
Wired the antler to a store bought headband
Sewed antler around headband and wire
Covered rest of headband with felt.

Im so glad I put the wire in, it makes the antlers bendy. I made sure there was no pokey bits of wire incase Sam decides it makes a better chew toy than hat.

ps: was this the right board for this project? I guess i could post it in pet related but this is a human or pet project...

And her is the picture of sam wearing the antlers

5  Re: The Sketchbook Project 2012 in Craftalongs by sarah-beth on: July 09, 2011 01:38:19 PM
Here is one of my pages my theme is travel with me

I am stationed in germany so that is what the sketchbook will center around. There are windmills everywhere here I can see them from my window so that's where the inspiration came for this page. It is water colors acrylic and eye shadow. I didn't have any pastels or chalk but have a huge supply of eyeshadow so that's what I used. The I sprayed it with hair spray to seal it worked out pretty well I hope it holds up.
