31  My First Polymer Clay/Cloth Doll: Victor the Lonely in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by BananaAmbush on: July 14, 2008 12:22:17 PM
Well, after seeing newagedoll's awesome clay/cloth dolls, I had to have a go. So here he is, Victor the lonely. Shunned as a child for his unnatural neon blue hair, Victor donned a pea coat, dark denim jeans, and some pointy platform boots and never looked back. He now spends his time picnicking in the rain and immersing himself in the world of miniature castles.

Aaaaand the scariest shadow I've ever seen in a picture:

Hope you guys like him...that hair was a pain in the ass  Tongue

32  My Little Zombie...a custom pony! *image heavy, now with halfassed tutorial!* in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by BananaAmbush on: June 20, 2008 10:15:29 PM
Yes, well, I've decided that I've become a little too "into" zombie movies as of late, as it appears to have culminated in this, my first ever my little pony makeover:

Yep, a zombie my little pony. Completely rehaired, gore-sculpted, painted-and-sealed pony goodness.
Hope you guys like, or at least are able to stomach, him.  Tongue

OK, because I was lame and didn't take in process pictures, but still want to let you guys know how I did certain parts, I'm going to try to explain it. Here's what the pony looked like when I started:

Yeah. Quite the makeover. To do the basic stuff like getting the head off and putting hair back in, I used this tutorial:

If that's not enough, just google "custom my little pony tutorial" and you'll be set. I basically scrubbed all the paint off with pure acetone, took the head off and took the hair out, so I had a blank, bald pony. Then, I cut but gashes in the pony with an exacto knife, and, using the neck holes, used fimo clay (the kind you bake in the oven...yep, you can bake the plastic pony!) to sculpt the gory bits. I baked the whole thing (no glue, just clay smashed into pony) and then painted it with watery acrylic paint. You get the best coat by using those triangular makeup sponges from CVS. I sealed the whole thing with Delta Ceramcoat varnish, then used superglue to put the head back on and attach the eye with embroidery floss. Whew!

33  Gogol Bordello Messenger Bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by BananaAmbush on: May 12, 2008 01:20:23 PM
Hey guys! So I'm going to study abroad in Costa Rica tomorrow and the program gave us all black messenger bags with the Israeli paratrooper logo from army surplus (they basically looked like this: http://www.fatiguesarmynavy.com/images/items/odisraelibag77.gif but black). They're having a bag decorating contest, so here's what I came up with. Sorry there aren't before pictures, but it was just a black messenger bag:

Here's the inside pocket; the colors are a bit weird in this one, but the second one looks like it does in real life:

Aaaand here's the strap with my name on it (nobody stalk me  Tongue)

I based the bag on the band Gogol Bordello, a band I love that has a lot to do with traveling and having fun doing it. I freehanded both the pictures from these pictures:
I'm thinking about doing more to it; I kinda just ran out of time. I'm thinking I'll put more lyrics on the strap or the inside. Hope you guys like!

34  Gotta Love Cardboard in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by BananaAmbush on: May 06, 2008 04:22:13 PM
So as I was packing to come home from college, I brought back with me approximately 4 million paintings etc. that I did on cardboard I found lying around downtown or that people gave to me. I was taking pictures for something else anyway, so I thought I'd post a few. My friend and I decided to go downtown and collect posters for bands' shows that had already past, then made collages out of them. Here's mine:

A purple curly-haired dude:

We decided that David Bowie was the patron saint of our dorm room, so I made this to go on the door:

And if you have an angel, you need a devil too, so Demon Sid Vicious got created to counterbalance Bowie's angelic charm:

David and Sid got put on the top and bottom of our door, respectively  Tongue. So there you go! Maybe sometime I'll get around to posting the other 3,999,996 paintings.

35  Clash of the Titans and Zombie Apocalypse (seriously image heavy) in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by BananaAmbush on: May 06, 2008 04:11:26 PM
OK, so here are a couple projects from my first year at college! The first one was for my portfolio review to get into the art school (which I found out that I passed on Monday, woo!) The theme had to be "dead heat," which means about the same as "neck in neck" I suppose. So here is God and the Devil fighting over a soul...

The whole thing is made of paper, and the little person in the middle is suspended in between their hands with fishing line.

Aaaand here's another project, an accordion pop-up zombie book. I took a picture of each page before and after you pull all the tabs and everything. Here's the cover:

And the whole thing:

When you push up the tab on the first page, hands rise out of the ground and the sky turns red:

Pull the top of the tombstone on this one and the zombie rises out of the grave (you can even make him dance around; super fun.)

This guy's eyeball just hangs loose. Pull the tab in his mouth and yum! Delicious brains! There's even a little maggot friend in his shoulder.

The zombies come rampaging through the city:

Delicious shoulder chunk:

Aaaand the last page. Originally it says "December 21st, 2012," the last day of the Mayan calendar. But when you pull on the little tab, the date changes to the 25th (how festive!) and you can pull the tab down to change everyone into zombies. Hurrah!

Whew, well that was a lot of pictures. Hope you guys like it!

36  Re: BananaAmbush's Gallery O' Joy! (Updated 3/24/08) in Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) by BananaAmbush on: March 25, 2008 09:10:01 PM
OK, this is another "that chick has way too much free time" type post. This is a Decemberists card based on the song "Shankill Butchers" for the lovely and talented FCfan. After many painstaking, arthritic-inducing bubble letters, here it is:

But what are those strange arrows by his shoulders? Push them outward and voila!

A creeptastic cleaver and knife set comes popping out. The knives are hidden in between layers of each fold; here's a closeup:

Hope you guys like this one; I'm off to nurse my carpal tunnel now.

OK, so sorry that my new one after a long break is basically the same as ones I've done before, but hey, it was a request. The person wanted a phoenix coming out of a broken heart:

Here's to hoping that this is the last bird-folds-out-of-object I'll do for a long time  Tongue

All righty, here's one I don't think I'll be trading just because it's too fragile and tangly...

That black "ICARUS" on the bottom of the picture is actually a little pocket that the feathers can stay in while the card is closed. Thanks for the lovely comments guys  Cheesy
